Sometimes you just have to clean the leftovers out of the fridge. For lunch today I had 1 piece of bacon, 1 hotdog sans bun, about a dozen french fries and about a cup of corn.

I can’t either, even when oven warmed they’re just horrible
I can if they are popped in the oven for crispness. But if they were/are already crispy, then it won’t work unless you like rocks.
I usually warm them up in the oven, but today was a “garbage day”. Everything went in the microwave.
I fry them up in a pan with olive oil, and they get to a decent consistency, more crunchy than crispy, but that’s better than soggy.
We do that with leftover potatoes. Dice them, put some seasoning salt and pepper on them and let the outsides get crispy. Yummy.
I have literally never had 1 piece of leftover bacon.
If there is 3 or fewer pieces left, they are gone.
That was my wife. Women: you can’t live with them, you can’t live without them and you can’t trust them with bacon.

We get our bacon when we buy a half hog from the butcher shop. It is much better than any bacon we have purchased at the grocery store.
I have a 9 lb pork belly that has been curing all week and will be smoked tomorrow. Half maple cure, half pepper and I plan to put fresh black pepper on the pepper one prior to smoking. I haven’t decided if I’m going to use apple wood or hickory yet though.

Six year olds can be so inquisitive. My granddaughter and I usually watch an episode or two of Who’s the Boss as she falls asleep in my lap. Last night her mind was a whirling. “Is Tony really Samantha’s dad?” “Are Tony and Angela really friends and are they really mad at each other?” After I tried to explain that they are pretending, then she wanted to know how they knew what to say and how did they know what to wear and how they had time to change clothes. And, “If this happened a long time ago, how can we see it now?”. “Since this happened a long time ago, are all of these people dead already?” Now she wants to be an actress. These are memories that I will enjoy for a long time.

I watched the Putin interview last night. I tried to go into it with an open mind and man I came out thinking Putin is a bad guy, but not THE bad guy. Also, he is sharp, gotta give him that. I got to thinking too that the growth of NATO after promises that he said were made, I can see their problem. How would we react if China and Russia started allying with and putting troops in central America? If anything he said was even half sincere, why would the US not try to ally with or at least increase trade with Russia? Tons of resources and I’d really like to go hunting in eastern Russia some day.
My heritage is Germans from Russia, specifically the Black Sea area. They picked up a lot of Russian heritage and it blended with their German back in the 1800s. The Russian Government can go fuck itself but as far as im concerned, I have more in common with the average rural Russian Citizen than I do with someone from America who grew up on one of the coasts and puts a Rainbow flag in their Windows and on their social media pictures. By taking an extreme stance you may not get people to the extreme you are touting, but just getting an incremental move in your direction is a win. Lots of those incremental moves in thought and you soon have people radicalized. AI is most definitely involved.

As a side, NLV asked about a top 5 passing offense below. Noticed all the playoff teams run the ball well, play good defense, and win the turnover battle. Regardless of passing game, none of those things are hardly a strength of ours.
Well was the defense itself bad at getting turn overs or did it feel and look worse with the offense being a turn over machine skewing the give/take ratio.
Not sure about turnovers – but if you can’t jump up as a DB and at least bat the ball away, pretty hard to get an interception. Seems over the last couple of years, we do well when we win the turnover battle.
Still, we need to run. the ball better and play more solid defense.
If we’re going to get a young QB to groom, his biggest friends will be a running game, and a screen game.

Wife and I went out to eat with friends last night – which we never do.
Food was delicious…4 sea scallops, a 6 ounce steak, a side serving of potatoes, a shared desert, and 4 drinks….with tip it was 160 dollars.
This is why we don’t go out.
Capitalism. Lot of places prices would be much worse.
so on the flip side, i took my little freeze family out to texas roadhouse after church a couple sunday’s ago…
3 kids meals, 2 adult meals (no drinks) $79 without tip. i was VERY surprised at how affordable a meal for everyone was. kids meals are legit there as well, not cheap food.
Man, those buns and honey butter get me every time, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten more that half my meal there because I just crush those sweet bastards until my meal comes.

Yep, TX Roadhouse is one of the few affordable places to go, anymore. Decent food, cold beer, good rolls.
I find Applebees to be reasonable too, my oldest and I often eat there for some 1:1 daddy daughter time and always get a couple apps during happy hour when its 50% off, I also get a beer at 50% off, comes to about $14, but I tip based on regular prices so with tip its a cool $20.
That’s the way to do it!
We haven’t been to Applebees in a really long time. Mrs. Bow worked there once upon a time (that’s how we met actually. Barney Stinson would be jealous since he was never able to get the bartender) and there are better similar priced restaurants here.
Do those restaurants have wonton tacos? Those sweet bastards are amazing and only 5 bucks at happy hour
Our normal go to’s are the India Grill down the street, Mackenzie River which is really good pizza, pasta and sandwiches and Your Pie which is basically Subway with wood fired pizza. Your Pie is great. 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 beers, 2 ice creams for like 30 bucks and it is really good pizza. Gone Fishin can attest.
I worked at Applebees for several years. The tips were more consistent than the sports bar gigs, so I liked that.
I always thought the food was just ok, but it was reasonably priced. The happy hour is good for apps and booze.
I drank and ate there a lot when we first moved back to Billings. We only had one vehicle so I would drop the Mrs. off at the Bee, go to work then sit there for a couple hours while she finished her shift. The food was never bad. They had a steak with mushrooms that was pretty good and their soft pretzels were always a win.
It really was brilliant to put those in shopping malls. All my weekend day tips were guys drinking while the wife was spending money. At night it was al the mall workers blowing off steam after dealing with shitty people all day.
There was a restaurant in the St. Cloud mall we would go to when I was a kid. It was a big treat for us since we didn’t go to Cloud town that often and it was a fairly nice restaurant from what I remember. At least for us. We didn’t go out much. With 4 kids, it took a long time before I realized how hard my parents had to work to make ends meet.
Going out to eat was a treat for us too. Once all of us kids moved out my parents went out to eat a lot more often.
I had a super awkward date at an Applebees once. Thought it was going okay. Went to Applebees, and an uncomfortable silence descended. I was powerless to break it, and it went on and on and on and on. The longer it went, the less I could think of to say to break it because it had gone on for so long that anything I said would have been ridiculously random.
Date ended as soon as the check came.
It was very weird. Never seen anything like it since. Don’t think I did anything terrible. It was just like, suddenly, she decided, NOPE, and it was all ended in her mind.
Still have not been there, and they opened one near me.
You should have just stayed home and had a salad with cherry tomatoes.

Not all places are that expensive lol. And drinks are usually the kicker. You get a nice mixed drink especially at a fancy pants place it sounds like, you’re talking 15ish bucks a drink, 4 drinks right there you’re down to $100 and less of a tip because of the percentage. You’re under $100.
Drinks were 10 bucks a piece, The 4 sea scallops were 38 bucks. The small steak must have been around 30. The side of potatoes for sharing around 12, the large desert for sharing around 14 bucks, throw in taxes and a tip and you get to 160.

No they weren’t large, I would say that is expensive by ND standards…but they were very very good.
Maybe health or fitness, supply and demand, but even here it seems any sea dish is getting more expensive making a good streak seem a lot more reasonable.

My kids are all over 21, when we go out to eat, especially Mexican they are on the hook for their drinks. My wife and I went to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, my meal was $13, my drink was $14.

I went to a funeral yesterday and talked to a guy who was in my best friends group back in the late-teen, early-twenties years. Then adulthood made everyone go their separate way. Have literally not seen him or talked to him in 25 years.

I blame the 40-hour week. It hypnotizes a person into treating a week as a day and a weekend as another day.
So each month is really only 8 days long. Then dementia knocks out four days of that easy. So each month is realistically 4 days long, which means a year is 48 days long. And most of that is spent sleeping, so that knocks a year back to 36 days long.
So you can not see someone for a “year,” but by the calendar, it is somehow actually 10 years that you have not seen them…
we should get together and talk about it.

I realize there will be a drop off. But doing the same thing for yet another playoff loss is pointless. Kirk and JJ will both be better off on other teams, if they are looking to win vs just get paid.
Next year will be bad. 2025 will be less bad.
2026 the team will look poised to make a run, and either the world will end or the NFL will decide to play flag football full time just as soon as the Vikings are starting to not suck.

Hey, I am a fan, and throw logic out the window regarding the Vikings.
Logic is for my job.
I do like Kirk. I do not feel the team can win with the current roster, and Kirk, Hunter, and JJ are all too high priced to keep around on a roster that will win nothing.
Rebuild, draft the next QB miss, and try something new.
Or catch lighting in a bottle and draft a player at 11 that can change a franchise. Probably have to be Defense for that to happen.
I know the next few months will be interesting, but not as fun as actual games.

I realize how silly and biased I am about sports. And entertainment overall. I still have not watched the entire movie Saving Private Ryan. I prefer cartoonish violence to realistic things.
I can watch and re watch the matrix, The Equalizer, and most super hero movies ( the punisher series was awesome and so is Reacher) and most any sci fi things. Realistic medical drama or war movies or any movie where kids get harmed, and I am out.
So, for my entertainment, the Vikings should do what I want. We know that will not happen, so here I am.
If they can’t afford Cousins, I’d go with Mullens and draft a QB to work under him. Draft another QB next year, too, as we will have a very high draft pick in 2025.
Without Cousins, a top 5 passing game ain’t gonna happen in 2024.
Vikings don’t need to worry about being a top-five passing team. They need to rebuild. It’s the Packers and Lions world for now in the NFC North. Lay in the weeds and reconsolidate.
