Weekend Vikings and Random Conversation
The weekend is finally here! There isn’t much to do here on the Planet Hoth, as we’re expecting wind chills as low as 60 below zero this weekend. The high temp on Monday is 10 below zero, and the low that night is 30 below zero. Those are the air temps, not the wind chill. I think I’ll go ahead & wear a jacket that day. Yuck.

RandBall over on Reddit is NOT a fan of bringing Aaron Rodgers to Minnesota now that the Jets have dumped him.
The Vikings made some special Valentines visits to Children’s Hospitals in the Twin Cities, per Vikings.com. That is some really cool stuff, I love seeing them do things like that. I got to tag along with Stefon Diggs as he visited kids at the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis back in 2016, it was a really special day.

CBS Sports proposes some trade scenarios for Matthew Stafford, the Minnesota Vikings are 2nd on the list. I just don’t see this happening, I’m not sure why news outlets seem to think the Vikings want to trade for an expensive older QB.
The Cowboys Rico Dowdle is set to be a free agent, per CBS Sports. This is a guy I wouldn’t mind seeing the Vikings pursue, especially if Aaron Jones is not returning.
The Dolphins have released RB Raheem Mostert, according to NFL.com.

Nice! We’re gonna go run on the track up at the gym. I’m still recovering from my fractured ankle, so not supposed to run outside yet. A patch of ice could be catastrophic for me. Doc said to run at a slower pace & not much over a mile. We did a mile & a half on Saturday.
We have cooler weather here in Tampa today. Currently 55 degrees, and the high will only be 73 today.
You guys are pretty amazing, living in those sub arctic temperatures.

Good article that really details the issues the Vikings have had, trying to fill out the offensive and defensive lines. The Lions have a done a good job of this in the last 5 years, and to me, that’s the biggest reason for their success the last two seasons.
We have discussed this here, many times. The Vikings have not ignored the lines, they simply whiffed, over and over, in bringing in players.

I forgot to mention this about our stay in Minneapolis. We stayed at a hotel downtown, and we paid for parking, $120 for two days. You can park more cheaply in the public ramp, but the odds of your vehicle getting broken into are pretty high. We paid for valet parking, just to make sure our car was safe.
just an FYI, for anyone planning to go to a game or anything next year.
Vegas is like that now.
Used to get free parking at the Casinos but they charge you now, sometimes you can get it Comped.
We’re trying to decide which game to go to next year. We’re thinking maybe Cleveland, depending on which month they play. We’ve been wanting to go to Cedar point in Sandusky OH, (the largest roller coaster park in the world or one of them), but that’s only open through October. If the Browns game is later in the year, we might go to Dallas.
My son, from Bismarck, he is a Cowboy fan. I know, I blame my ex.
He it thinking of going to Denver to watch them play the Donkos.
His wife is a Denver Fan.
We have discussed meeting there that weekend and while they go to the game we will go to Bucees.
I have no interest in watching the Cowgirls vs the Donkeys. If I wanted to see that I could watch it in Tijuana cheaper.
Denver is one place we would like to go see a game. I have a list of cities that won’t go to, Denver is not on that list yet.
I’m not going to go to Chicago, Detroit, LA, or New York. If the Vikings didn’t call Minneapolis home, that city would definitely be on the list as well.
I would add Filthadelpia and consider Seattle as well.

Yep, Philadelphia is definitely on the list. The only reason I would go to Seattle is because I used to live there.
I pretty much include all of California on my list.
I was actually in Santa Cruz the day or two after the Trump election in 2016.
The majority of the state is red, just that the population centers along the coast and Sacramento are control the rest of the state.

Thanks. My guesstimate was anecdotal, so maybe they have real data. In my day, we felt strongly that Trans was not a good idea in the military. Of course I ran with a pretty rough crowd in those days too.
The only people who thought it was a good idea were the Trans and FJB Admin.
Didn’t see any of that back when I was in, but that was in the early 90s.
I got out in 98 and there wasn’t any visible.

There certainly wasn’t any of that in the early seventies. And in fact, The Army’s version of NCIS (forget the name) primarily focused on looking for guys and running them out of the service.

I remember the early 80s they would accuse someone of being gay and that person would bring their ‘girlfriend’ in to swear that it wasn’t the case.
The Girlfriend was usually a lesbian and they had an agreement to help each other that way.

Good morning all. Hopefully all is well with everyone. It’s another warm day in Tampa, at 78 degrees, heading to a high of 80. Gonna rain today, according to the forecast. I’ve done some morning chores, and had cinnamon rolls and coffee for breakfast. I know, not healthy, but at least I don’t smoke. Gonna watch golf.
It snowed overnight here again, but just looks like a light dusting. It is about 34 degrees currently so I expect I won’t even have to clean off the walkway as it should melt itself clear.

Good morning SoCal. I lived in the Baltimore area for the last 13 years of my career, so I know what winter conditions are like, but you guys take the cake. GF was talking about 30 below and colder temps.
We get occasional winter conditions here but nothing like NoDak/Minn/etc.
I worked in Tehachapi in SoCal that was on a plateau and got winter storms but once I got back down to the desert floor again it wasn’t bad.
I did ‘get to visit’ in laws in NoDak back in the day. So as nice as the people are and as well run as the state is I learned that it is too cold for this SoCal boy.
Also admit when I’m wrong. Maintained for years a flag was thrown. Found out later it was an orange some fan threw on the field. Probably the same idiot that threw the whiskey bottle. Still say Pearson pushed off. LOL on Ponder, simply wasn’t a good QB.
Appreciate the photos of US Bank Stadium GF hope to visit one day. Did visit the Metro Dome back in the day. At least the Twins gave me two Championships. Funny, for some reason my life didn’t change. 😀
Yep, I was at the Metrodome a couple times. I was also in town the night the dome collapsed in 2010. Drove 8 hours through a damn blizzard to get there, dome collapsed the night before the game.
Went to many games at TCF, my favorite place for Vikings football, LOVED the outdoor environment. I would’ve loved to have seen games at the old Metropolitan Stadium. I was at the Giants game in 2015 when it was 25 below zero, most fun I ever had at a game. That was back in my drinking days, consumed a LOT of anti-freeze (bourbon) that day.
Took my son to the last game at the Metrodome. It was amazing how many people were trying to steal stuff. People were trying to pry off any sign on the walls that said Metrodome.

The Vikings and RB Aaron Jones agreed to move the void date on his contract from this Monday until the final day before free agency.
If Jones had not been extended by Monday, the team would have taken on $3.2M in dead money in 2025.
This expands the window for Jones and Minnesota to continue to negotiate a new deal that would avoid that amount hitting the cap in full for 2025.
It doesn’t guarantee a new deal will be reached, but it buys time for both sides if there is interest in hammering one out before free agency.
