Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
I love Halloween. People from all over Bismarck bring their kiddos to our neighborhood to trick-or-treat, it’s apparently a hot spot at Halloween. Lots of folks go crazy with decorations, lots of folks give out loads of candy, some folks have a cold beer available for parents, it’s a real fun time. We’ve never counted the number of trick-or-treaters since we’ve moved here, so we decided to last night. At 7:00 pm, we had already had 180 trick-or-treaters. It’s awesome, so much fun to see all the cool & creative costumes.
Game day is tomorrow, as the Vikings travel to Detroit to take on the Lions. The Lions are red hot, while the Vikings are………not red hot. The wheels are getting wobbly on the Vikings season, and if they don’t turn things around soon, the wheels will fall off. The good news is that it’s the Vikings. We Vikings fans know all-too-well that our beloved team has a knack for losing games that they should be able to dominate, and they also have a knack for winning games that they should not be able to win. Let’s hope the Vikings can pull off the upset and give the team a much-needed jump start.
Vikings and NFL News
From Vikings.com, a Vikings @ Lions week 9 game preview. Also, the Vikings @ Lions final injury report. The Vikings are getting guys back from injury, but they still have a very robust injury report.
The Sporting News is looking for clicks, they say the Vikings are the only fit for a Kirk Cousins trade.
Andrew Van Ginkel says he’s ready to go even though he’s listed as questionable, details from the Star-Tribune. I hope so, the defense sure seems to take a significant step backwards when he’s not in the lineup.
Michael Penix is off the injury report and will be on the field for Sunday’s game against the Patriots, per NFL.com.
From the AP, Joe Flacco’s status is unknown for their game against the Bears. Well, crap, I hope we find out soon, because I’m changing my pick for that game if Flacco isn’t in. I had the Bengals over the Bears prior to hearing this.
The Dolphins fired their General Manager, Chris Grier, and more “changes” are likely to follow, per the AP.
Media Selection
I like this guy’s channel. He does a nice job here of highlighting the gambliing issue in sports. I have a feeling that we’re just seeing the beginning, I think it’s going to continue to grow and worsen and will significantly affect every major sport. Well, unless the major sports buy their way out of it & get the Feds to brush it under the rug. Before you laugh, remember that they covered up the Epstein thing.
Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
- Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.
In case anyone came back to this thread, we created a late game thread for ya’.

I fixed it. I had the template screwed up, it was going to fan huddle. I fixed the template.
Lucky Guy(s).
Hate these time changes.
Can’t we just leave it one way or the other.
Because Government.
What made sense a 100 years ago is made into law and it is more difficult to change than to just leave it alone.
I don’t have as much problem hitching the horse up to the wagon as I used to.
Never hitched a horse to a wagon before, helped hitch a trailer to a tractor I time or two but even that was a very long time ago.
Hitched a trailer to a Humvee or ‘Deuce and a half’ more recently. But even that was almost 30 years ago.
Have hitched a boat trailer to the Tacoma but even that was more than 10 years ago now.
Dang time flies and I am getting older by the day.
I agree 100%
Today I get to wear my JJ McFragile T shirt again. It may be the last time since he could die out there.
I hope he plays well, but it does not look good for the Vikings today.
It’s the NFL. ……. any given Sunday!
Dodgers and Jays going into extra innings. 4-4.
Dodgers win in 11 innings 5-4.
Sorry Canadians.
The LA
RiotsMostly Peaceful Celebrations don’t seem quite as bad a usual.I love this stuff…
I really hope Gruden wins his lawsuit. It would also be fun to see him coaching again.
Not sure that even if he wins an NFL team will hire him.
Just like with Flores they have long memories and hold grudges well.
I do not think we are in any danger of losing Flores.
Defense ends up sucking when it matters.
Flashy blitzes do not matter when you continuously fold at the end.
Part of that is talent, but he has to take some responsibility for how bad the defense is this season
‘He who lives by the blitz dies by the blitz’.
Hopefully Gink back and a little less Pace Jr will improve things.
Rodents tied with Mich St 10-10. St just missed a FG and Minn has about 5:30 to go the length of the field and win in regulation.
If they win they will be bowl eligible.
Punt, Mich St has about 3m to go 90 yards for the win.
1 play, 85 yard run.
Looks like the Rodents suck again.
St kicked off for only 30 yards and the Rodents managed to score.
17-17 with 29s in regulation.
Spartans held to a FG and Minn scored a TD after getting a PI call in the end zone.
Rodents win 23-20. Pretty decent game
Just got back from a quick nine holes. Weather was absolutely gorgeous, perfect gold conditions. Fair round, course is set up tough right now as there will be a tournament on Monday.
Where’s Surly, just one of the reasons to live in Florida.
Hey JR, it’s that time of year. The extra hot weather has passed. I’m gonna play 9 holes tomorrow morning. Gonna be around 60 degrees when we tee off.
I am recovering from flying in an airplane. Every single time I have flown as an adult, I end up with the plague of some sort. Wore an N95 mask on the plane both direction, plus safety glasses. I still got sick. Been down since Wed. Finally feeling human, but the cough and sore throat are still annoying. Fever broke friday PM.. Normal temp since.
I truly hate flying.
Love florida though. I just think I need to spend 2-3 days and drive down or pay for a private plane once I have gouger money.
You gotta toughen up. Maybe we should place you on IR
Accurate.
I have not be sick at all the last 8 years, except after flying.
Airports are evil. People bitch about cruise ships, at least there is fresh air. being stuck in a tin can in the sky with recycled air does me in every time. Wife and I just had this discussion. Wife “Are we going on our cruise in March?” Me ” I think I will drive to Florida and pick you up at the airport”
Try drinking more on the airplane, the alcohol might stave off the cooties.
Odd… but would you have given up a 6th round pick next year for him? I think I would have.
Yeah, Army over the ‘Flyboys of the AFA’ 20-17.
Good things happen when you go to the Gym and come back and check scores.
#grin
Yeah AFA hasn’t been very good at football lately.
Army has mostly sucked this year as well.
Even with the win they are just 4-4.
Navy even lost and are now 7-1. I have not yet decided if that is a good thing or not.
Really?
Colts elevated Laquon Treadwell to the active roster for their game tomorrow against the Steelers. I honestly didn’t know he was still in the league.
Neither did I.
We had well over 300 trick-or-treaters last night, the folks down the street had over 800. So much fun.
800 WOW!! You’d need a garage full of candy bars (and a bank loan).
We had enough for 400-ish, and almost ran out. We’ll buy more next year.
We are out in the country. We had 0 trick-or-treaters.
Last year, our first one here, The Teacher prepared for 100+ trick or treaters. We had 12-15 and she ended up donating the unopened candy (actually fruit snacks) to the local elementary school.
This year she got a lot less candy and kept a count of how many came and the total was 10. Half of those were a group teenagers who showed up just before 9. At least they were polite and in costume, not like in SoCal.
Watching a replay of the NE-Atlanta SB.
Atlanta had a very good team, they kept making plays even after it was 28-3. That catch by Edelman at the 2m mark was insane. After colliding with three Falcons he managed to grab the ball off of some feet before it hit the ground.
Perseverance and grit won that game for the Pats as much as anything else.
And a bad playcall by the Falcons when they could have sealed the game.
Didn’t see much of that. They didn’t do much Zim-ball.
Up 28-20 they drove downfield with chunk plays got into FG range that would have iced the game. But a sack and holding penalty pushed them back out of range and they had to punt.
Some chucks got them close to FG range again at 28 all before their drive stalled. I didn’t see very much if any ‘playing it safe’ on their part.
Unless you mean running vs the pass play that got sacked to push them out of FG range at 28-20.
As I recall when they were up 28-20, and were in FG range that would have iced game, they called two pass plays. Believe they got a holding and then a sack taking them out of FG range. All they needed were two runs, even for zero gain.
Well first there was the sack that pushed them to the edge of FG range and then they tried to get that yardage back to have a decent FG try and got the holding call.
They were aggressive throughout the game and two runs there could have been called ‘taking their foot off the gas’ especially as they were moving the ball well on that drive.
Hindsight is 20/20, The two runs would not have guaranteed points but would have made them much more likely.
It’s been a while but I believe Kyle Shanahan was the OC for the Falcons and he caught holly hell the next day from the press.
But as you say it’s hindsight.
They also decided to run the ball only four times in the entire second half when they had a huge lead.
Yup, they stayed aggressive. And they were having success moving the ball, they just kept falling short of scoring.
You sure?
The 85 yard drive is what put them up 28-3. Then they decided to not run the ball, and got a grand total of 46 yards from then on.
Kinda interesting data…
So we are on the mend??
Apparently
This stuff is what The Teacher complains about when Government Handouts are discussed. “It is the taxpayer’s job to pay for my kids to eat and for my kids to be taken care of.” and “I have seven different baby daddies and none of ‘em no good for me,”
Just like when a parent came into her classroom and threw their child’s homework on her desk and said ‘It isn’t my job to teach my kids it’s yours, so stop sending this crap home. If you don’t want to do your job then quit.”
https://www.foxnews.com/media/snap-beneficiaries-threaten-ransack-stores-over-government-shutdown
Saw that yesterday. Even if you have seven kids from seven different daddies why would you be dumb enough to say something like this. Just stupid.
It is a culture. The Teacher has had 1st graders tell her “I don’t need to learn any of this, I am just going to stay home and have lots of babies and get paid, just like my mom’.
The were 3 Section 8 Apt Complexes near her school. Section 8 = Gov Subsidized.
It’s as simple as this… really.
We should do this Sunday… grin.
Impressive behind the back throw there, lots of distance and decent accuracy.
Left handed too. 45 yards? Wow.
Good morning, SKOL!

Goooooood morning Skolbros!
Up at Platte River State Park in NE Nebraska for the weekend, rented a cabin. Lots of outdoor time by the fire – tunes and foosballs on the tv set up around the fire pit outside. Burgers, brats, camper potatoes. I turn 47 this week – so we celebrate early.
My buddy, a lifelong Bears fan, surprised the shit out of me yesterday with a gift I was not expecting: A Riddell SpeedFlex Vikings helmet – authentic. This thing is the real deal. Blown away.
Lots of college foosballs today. Blackout game in Lincoln for my beloved Big Red with USC coming to town (I hope SOMEBODY thinks to check their horses). End zones, 50 yard line ‘N’ and the crowd will be in all black. Huskers wearing all black unis. Should look pretty dope. Hope it turns into a much needed victory.
Hope yall had great and safe Halloween. Enjoy your weekend Skolocholos!
Also, we beat Detroit by two scores tomorrow……*

Awesome helmet there Mjolnir. I have a Redskins helmet my wife got me for Christmas about 10 years ago. I remember the feeling when I got it. A real NFL helmet. Very cool. I got her a Ravens helmet the next year.
Those old school Redskins unis and helmets were awesome. Iconic. HTTR
HTTR indeed. They had a great fight song, and traditional marching band. Used to love games at RFK stadium.
Oh man, that sounds like a fantastic weekend.
Went to a great Halloween party last night. About ten couples, and all the girls were former competitive fitness queens like my wife. All of them showing their bodies off too. I was standing in the kitchen with a few of the guys and I said “I’ve seen more clothes on women in a strip joint” which got a laugh. These folks were all about 30 years younger than us, but we seemed to fit right in. I was the only Vikings fan, and I took some ribbing on that. Of course the World Series was on too in the background, which I didn’t watch. Three of the guys had money on the Dodgers though, so they ended up happy.
Did McFragile (mt) get hurt on the flight to Detroit?
Lazy weekend.
