The porch is lonely today.
That was a fairly quick read, now on to the degenerates side…
oh, hi
Rob and Brad, you may need to channel your inner college coach and go on a recruiting trip.
I think the Vikes win Sunday fairly easily. I think they’re going to smoke the *aints.
errrrrrrr
Vikings defense vs *aints offense is perfectly evenly matched (overall) according to Football Outsiders. NO’s O is 12.9% below average, and MIN’s D is also 12.9% below average.
Vikings offense vs *aints defense is a better situation: MIN’s O is 9.7% above average, while NO’s D is only 3.6% above average.
Special Teams is a clear advantage for the Vikings. *aints have the worst ST in the league (through three games) and Minnesota’s is ranked 20th, which is actually just slightly below average (and that’s after going 0/2 on 56 yard FG attempts last week – something KOC is probably looking to avoid).
Looking deeper into MIN D vs *aints O:
The passing games are more closely matched. MIN’s pass D is 12.5% below average while NO’s pass O is only 12.1% below average, so SLIGHT advantage to the *aints here. One team will have to step up. Will Famous Jameis show London that he’s better than people think? Or will he restore the confidence of the Viking defense?
The running game is less evenly matched. MIN’s rush D is 13.5% below average (ranked 31st, currently) while the *aints rush O is only 3.1% below average. So the *aints have a possibility of effectively sitting on a lead, perhaps. This London game is a “home” game for them (LOL), but not really. The Lions weren’t able to protect their two different double digit leads during the latter part of either half.
Looking at injuries:
Injury reports aren’t out yet, but here’s what we know.
Vikings – Dalvin Cook (RB)
Dalvin Cook exited the game after running into his own blocker (butt fumble LOL) during Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions and did not return. According to some NFL Network jerk, Cook re-dislocated his shoulder and is expected to be okay. Cook was not wearing a harness despite having an unrepaired labral tear in his shoulder. There is hope Cook will play in a harness next week against the Pew Orleans *aints. (F those guys)
*aints – Michael Thomas (WR)
Thomas exited Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers with an apparent toe injury. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Thomas is expected to undergo more tests. The toe injury is not the same foot as the one from Thomas’ previous ankle injury, which forced him to miss most of the 2020 season and the entirety of 2021.
*aints – Famous Jameis (QB)
Has been playing with 4 broken vertebrae – wasn’t practicing today. Dalton taking snaps with the first team.
Concussion News
Both Tre’Quan Smith (WR) and Andrus Peat (G) sustained concussions during week 3 and have entered “the protocol”.
Based on Football Outsiders’ current data, more than half of players miss at least one game once diagnosed with a concussion. However, just under 75% of players return from concussion protocol after one week.
Based on the above, we can predict that either Smith or Peat will miss the London game (possibly both, but also possibly neither). If Thomas’s toe keeps him out (or renders him less effective) and Tre’Quan Smith can’t play, that will help the Vikings pass defense significantly.
If Peat can’t go, the Vikings’ inside pass rush may be helped a bit, but I’d be more encouraged for Minnesota’s RUSH defense doing a better job with any runs up the middle. The *aints may opt to bounce Kamara outside a lot, which means we’ll need good contain from Z.Smith/Hunter and it’ll put more pressure on Kendricks/Hicks. It would be nice to see our young secondary tackling running backs, but only if they’re near the line of scrimmage.
If Cook can’t go, we might see a simplified rushing attack from the Vikings. That could go either way. Can the *aints DTs hold up against Minnesota’s run blocking and Mattison’s grind-it-up-the-middle style?
Sounds like Winston will play. Honestly, I’ll consider that a plus for the Vikes.
Sniff……sniff……………yup, I smell INTs.
I’m getting de ja vu.
Wow! Nice article!
It kinda ended up that way, didn’t it?
If Stu ever shows up here…
Fantasy football will lead me to an early grave.
Because it’s Wednesday.
it’s good exercise for your mind
fantasy football sucks
LOL, maybe you just suck at fantasy football?
maybe…
but i love hearing you all say things like
“I SCORED MORE POINTS THAN 90% OF THE LEAGUE AND STILL LOST”
that is just ONE reason fantasy football sucks
there are leagues where the winner is simply whoever scored the most points
I’m undefeated and have the most points in the league
I got beaten like a rented step child by Stu this week, my first loss. Hopefully my last.
Yippee!!!
My Front Porch is BACK!!!!
too early for Christmas
NO CHRISTMAS STUFF TILL AFTER THANKSGIVING
