Tom Osborne was 60-3 his last 5 years at Nebraska. 3 National Titles. 95 team won games by an average of 29 points. They WERE dominant. Tough times now, but that era was my wheelhouse as I was a coming of age teenager and NU & Vikings football was my life.

Yeah, I remember that game. I’m a huge Browner fan, too. I saw him at a restaurant in Minny one time, never said anything to him because he was eating & talking to someone, but it was pretty cool to see him. My first football memory is the miracle at the met in 1980. Tommy Kramer was my first football idol. I loved Studwell, too.
Studwell lived up to his name for sure. I’ll try 550. Got 570 out of Yankton and 620 in Sioux City listed too. I’ll have the old man with me. He’ll be entertainingly pessimistic.

Temps have been surprisingly pleasant, must be around 70 today. I’ll take it, we could have snow already.
River is low as hell, sandbars appearing everywhere. We had some rain earlier in the summer & I thought the drought may be over, but hell no, we’ve gotten basically zero rain since June. When you walk around out in the country, the grass crunches when you walk. I wouldn’t even drive off the gravel last weekend because I was worried my exhaust may start a fire. It’s really dry here.
Froze the last 2 nights here. Had ice on the ocean this morning. Raining now. Had an average storm last week, 4 inches of rain. nearly 70 for the year here.

He’s doing REALLY well, actually. He’s very athletic, so he’s done well at the sports he’s played. He LOVES baseball, and he likes soccer a lot. He’s not sure if he wants to play football. I don’t pressure him, I let him make his own choices when it comes to sports.
My youngest was a soccer stud as a tyke. Ol hyde even put him in the city league.
I told him he wouldn’t even remember soccer after he played one game of football and left it at that.
Rotten commie bastards don’t let kids play football until 9th grade here.
So he goes out for football in 9th grade, never played soccer again. Even today admits as a youngster he didn’t know any better. Soccer parents want to support their kids, as did I. But I also knew soccer sucks as a sport.
One funny story from when youngest was on some all star soccer team and lost. He had a Mexican coach who told all the players after the game, that they had embarrassed their families by losing. My kid wasn’t bothered at all, because as he told me later, I knew my family was already embarrassed because I played soccer, lol.
Been a couple HS football players in Minny that suffered severe spinal injuries. I’d never tell my kid no but i wouldn’t encourage it.
Eli played football last year already, I coached the team. He isn’t sure if he likes football, which is fine. He LOVES to run, so soccer is a fit, but he really loves baseball (not surprising, I was a baseball player & my wife played fast-pitch sofball in college). As far as I’m concerned, he doesn’t have to play sports, but if he wants to, I’m all for it. I coach in some capacity in all the sports he plays. I was HC of the football & baseball team. I can only help with soccer because I don’t know shit about it.
Get him running and jumping. As we know, you can’t coach speed but you can coach endurance. He might be the next Steve Prefontaine or Billy Mills.
He’s fast as hell, blows by most kids his age. He’s also ran four 5k races with me since last year, so his endurance is stronger than hell. Kid’s gonna be fast. Plus he inherited my metabolism, endless fucking energy.
Around 6-7th grade he should really increase in speed. Good luck with him. I was fortunate as my youngest was very sprint fast and could really jump. My oldest, not so much.
Kiddo loves to run, and it’s something we can do together, which is awesome. We’re running another 5k next week. He’s been hinting that he wants to run a 10k, but he’s not old enough for that, yet. Trying to use some common sense & not let him go too fast too quickly. Keep it enjoyable.
My daughter was very athletic, played fast pitch softball and ran track, snow ski, etc. was also 1st chair trumpet in the best band in the state. However, I’m disappointed that the grands aren’t that interested in sports. The 8 year old (the brainiac) takes gymnastics and soccer (and special arts class, loves art), but she’s really uncoordinated.
I always thought the 6 year old would be our little athlete, but she’s not really interested. She’s in the county wide choir and loves that kind of thing. She does have a beautiful voice.
Those are all good things to get into. Sports, music, academics, all of those things can help kids develop. Sports are becoming less helpful as parents get more psychotic and coaches forget the real reason the kids are there (to learn sportsmanship, teamwork, etc.).
I always made sure my daughter was at least in one physical activity (kids need exercise, she was always fit and in shape) and one activity good for the brain (music is really good for the brain), but she loved both sports and music, so it was easy to accomplish that goal.

Sounds about right with how mine was. I’d forgotten about the light sensitivity the following days until you mentioned it but yeah kinds hurt if I remember. It was a trip getting the corneas cut and flapped over. I think they heal really quick like a day or two.

You don’t lose your sense of taste & smell anymore with this new variant, right? That was the most inconvenient part for me, but I had it way back during the Delta variant phase, I couldn’t taste or smell for a month. I ate really healthy.

I didn’t lose too much taste, but I lost smell for a couple weeks. Weird how our nose figures out the taste of something before we stick it in our mouths.
Yup, I noticed a slight change in taste for the things I ate and drank, but no complete loss of taste or smell. Could use a month of healthy eating though, but the current variant doesn´t seem to have the complete taste and smell loss feature.
