Wow, what a game. I really wish the Vikings would learn how to put a team away, but a win is a win. I have to remind myself that when you’re playing an NFL team, they’re going to continue to try to come back. Was it all great? Hell no. Was it all bad, obviously no. Lots of grey, but enough good to finish the game with a win. I’ll take it.
The Bright Side
Every team will lose leads. Winners find a way to continue to fight and win those close games, and that’s what this team is doing this year. It’s a breath of fresh air after years of the Vikings finding ways to lose these types of games.
The offense looked unstoppable in the first half, and they were. They also marched down the field in a methodical, 7 minute drive, to get the go-ahead score that would eventually win the game. Cook was dominating in the run game, and the O-line was rock solid. All-in-all, there was a lot of positives in this game, and the Vikings had stretches of brilliance, especially Kirk Cousins, and this was against the Bears defense, which is not a weak defense.
Concerns
In the first half, the offense was rolling and so was the defense. At the end of the half, the defense seemed to falter on the Bears’ TD drive, and man, they looked bad until late in the 4th quarter. They got very little pressure on Fields, the coverage on the WRs was far too loose (although this appears to be by design, frustratingly), and they couldn’t seem to stop the Bears offense, which is NOT a good offense. The defense is going to have to improve if this team wants to be a serious competitor in the post-season.
The offense, after looking elite in the first half, took the 2nd half off until their last drive. The running game was working, but they could not sustain a drive. Cousins made one horrile decision that resulted in an interception, and there were many other mistakes like drops and penalties (many of them from our tight ends). The Vikings offense will need to be more consistent going forward, and eliminate those stretches of bad play.
Special Teams:
A bad day for the special teams, pretty much all-around. Joseph pushed another field goal to the right, and then his second field goal was blocked. Wright only punted one time (that’s actually a sign that the offense was working pretty dang well yesterday), and he shanked that one and it only went 15 yards. The return game was average, and the coverage units did their job. Overall, they’d get a D-minus at best, most likely an F. Skolly will likely elaborate more on this on his report card.
Summary
In the end, a win is a win. The Vikings are 4-1 and are sitting all alone at the top of the NFC North. SKOL!!!!!!!!

The Vikings won. It was pretty early, then extremely ugly after halftime as the defense collapsed, the offense stagnated for a few possessions, the kicker sucked, but in the end the offense strung together a 17 play TD drive to take the lead and then Cam got stiff armed like the skinny bitch he is, but didn’t give up, came back and stripped Smith-Marsupial to seal the game

Domain Name System, its how devices can interpret web locations via their names and attribute them to their IP addresses. So Skoloholics.com has a web IP address. With out DNS, you would need to know the IP address to get to the website, your PC wouldn’t know where Skoloholics is.

Defense needs to blitz more and press at the line of scrimmage. I’m tired of so many wide open receivers, especially on 3rd and long. The zones are killing our pass rush (and Danielle) because they can easily pass out of the rush to a receiver in a soft zone.

3.5 years ago my son had surgery to remove a benign cyst from his brain (it was going to cause pressure issues at some point, and was only found because he volunteered for an MRI psych experiment at the U of M [thank you, God]).
Post surgery he didn’t get out of bed for days. He was wobbly and slow and unsure when he first got back on his feet. He was pale and hunched. It was a bit scary.
Yesterday he participated in a mountain biking race in River Falls, Wisconsin and he passed 30 riders to significantly improve his pole position. Near the end of the race, there was another rider gaining on him quickly enough to overtake him before the finish line. My boy sensed it, stood up, and opened the throttle wide, pulling away and securing his place.
I compared that image to the one of him unsteady on his feet in the hospital and had myself a rare emotional dad moment. It was a very good weekend.

I tried with Firefox, Edge and Chrome on PC. Posted the above message from my phone with Duck Duck Go. It has now decided to work on Firefox PC with no changes on my end. All 3 browsers said something about redirecting (the above or it redirected too many times).

Agreed. It also seems that they’re using a scheme that allows Kirk a lot more latitude in changing the plays at the line based on the defensive look. Using a lot of hard counts to get the D to tip their hand, then calling an audible if necessary.

What’s always been strange to me is that Kirk has always been very effective at the sneak game but over his time in MN the Vikings have progressively used him less in that role.
