Speaking of Thursday Night Football, I’m sitting here watching this right now, and I have to tell you, this supposed “best fanbase in the NFL” is awful quiet. It’s 14-6 Tennessee as of this writing, and you could hear a pin drop in the stadium, well other than the boos as the Packers leave the field for halftime. Hee hee. Fair weather fans, maybe? Can’t handle a little adversity? I don’t know, just an observation. It’s sure going to be fun watch that team slip back into mediocrity or worse, isn’t it?

So, battling some medical shit. Had a bit of an episode on Monday, they aren’t sure what caused it. I’m in excellent health, so they’re doing tests. Took a bunch more blood today, gonna put me on a heart monitor for 2 weeks, and do a stress test on my heart to rule out anything catastrophic. Still no clue what’s wrong.
Did get a chance to visit with my primary doc, who I haven’t seen in over a year. We both love fishing, plus he’s a Vikings fan, so our visits are always fun, we spend over half our time talking fishing & football.
In the meantime, I’ll try not to die, I guess.
You’ve made it this far… you can at least wait until we win a Super Bowl.

When I got the plague, unlike many people, I got major shortness of breath, my heart rate went to well over 120 for about 4 hours and I couldn’t get it back down to my normal 50-something.
And then I had so little energy for a week I just lay there… and the undertaker was calling my relatives for my measurements.
I was pretty wiped out when I had it, but that was over a year ago. This is nothing like that.

I doubt it is. I can’t imagine I’m in that bad of health. Cholesterol was over 300 the last time I was in to see him, but since then, I’ve gotten back on track with my diet, lost 30 pounds, ran a half-marathon, and am on a regimented schedule with sleep. I blame Ponder.
Hope they figger it out quickly. Could be just post-win weirdness, since we haven’t had that for quite a few years.

Some on Monday, but was temporary. I dunno, very odd. They’re a bit confused, as am I. Odd since I’m in really good health, other than the cholesterol, but that’s been high my whole life, it was 230 right out of basic training.

I’m not a doctor but I’ve been involved with quite a few cardiovascular studies that one thing they usually have to rule out from a heart attack is stress induced panic attacks.
Your blood work should give you an idea.
Yeah, blood work will tell us more. Seriously doubt it’s heart-related, I’m healthy as a horse, they say. I’m hoping just stress related, but really doubt that, too. Right now, just ruling out anything major & going from there.

Tomorrow I’m going to climb the ladder and mount the external antenna for our cellular antenna signal booster on the 25 foot mast. What’s the worst that can happen? I am gonna do what I ended up having to do with the other antenna when the wind broke the flimsy CHYNA mount, duct tape the thing up there.
I already did all the interior mounting, while I was slaving away working from home yesterday.
Do you have Verizon? We have network extenders at work that just plug into ethernet. I’m not sure if/how it would affect your internet usage though since I think you said you pay by usage.

My cell carrier is Verizon. We get barely a half bar of signal at the height of the mast.
I have Starlink for personal usage and MidRivers fiber for work. MidRivers is $20/month plus 20 cents a gig. Starlink is $110 for unlimited usage. The latency and speed of fiber is needed for viewing thousands of digitized images (porn).
I would look at the network extender then. Even if it doesn’t work with the Starlink, which it should, I can ‘t imagine you would eat that much data if you hook it to the MidRivers network. No antennas to worry about. Just plug into an ethernet cord and finish setting up.
We had the antenna cell extenders previously but they didn’t work great so we tried these and they have been great. It is like a mini cell tower.

Obviously the best time to be climbing ladders and roofs, especially if you are using an extension ladder. The coefficient of friction from ladder to ice is really high.

When we put up the current booster antenna we installed it in the living area. Since my command center is on the shop side, I get no cellular service there. I’ve found I get plenty of exercise dashing down the stairs to answer the phone, then running back upstairs to look at an exam, then running back down to answer the question. So we’re putting in a second antenna now that I have the ability to read from home. I enjoy a challenge, nothing like working with your hands on a ladder in sub zero weather with wind and snow.

If its cold enough, pee on the bottom of the ladder and it will freeze in place and keep it from sliding out.

I’ve been small-talked by a half-dozen people here in Minnesota already today who were praying for global warming, not trying to prevent it.
Global temps at this point this year are actually quite a bit lower than they were last year. The earth has cycles, not only on a year to year basis but even longer out, 30, 50, 100 year weather cycles. Lot of your global warming earth is doomed folks like to cherry pick stats, reports, tests and give data with out context to make it look much much worse than it is. But, feel free to get mad and yell at people for not “Going Green”.
There are also geologic cycles. Glacial cycles tend to move in cycles off about 100000 years. Judging by past cycles, we are actually in the mid point of an active time of glaciation. If earth’s history holds true, we ca expect about 50 more periods of glaciers moving down across North America. One of these will dump a layer of ice over a mile thick on Nissan Stadium. If this seems unlikely, the most southern reach of our recent glaciers stopped 75 mils short of Tennessee
I’ll politely walk through the science of climate change. Not really directed at you KFEY, and I’m not saying there is anything wrong with your take.

I think the science is sound. I don’t know about the future models though.
Science which looks correct to me:
CO2 is a greenhouse gas, which trap the suns heat. Increasing CO2 increases Earths temp.
So when we dig up fossil fuels, we are taking carbon that was in the ground and adding it to the air.
But how much have we added?
NoAA has a nice graph of carbon in the atmosphere going back to 1960. It went from 280 ppm to 421, which is about a 50% increase (1). I find the following data really cool. Air bubble trapped in mile thick ice shows that over the last 800,000 years, CO2 never was over 300 ppm (2).
This is pretty basic stuff. We dig out carbon, burn it, and it enters the atmosphere as CO2.
The earth is also getting warmer. Nasa has a few nice graphs to show the increase in temps.
Where I personally get skeptical.
We are all going to die!!!!! I don’t know what the long term consequences of our actions will be, and the chicken littles seem a bit too alarmist. Plus, they tend to have an agenda…which makes me skeptical of what they are pushing.
I also don’t think there will be no consequences. Blaming one storm or event on climate change is foolish IMO.
One thing a warmer world will do is increase the likelihood of an event like a drought, hurricane or severe weather.
One look around at the weather and things seem quite a bit fucked IMO. So that makes sense to me.
I often hear climate change is a hoax, but what exactly is the hoax?
Its easily provable that we are digging up fossil fuels, and burning them to add carbon to the atmosphere.
Is it the graphs showing a temp increase or the graphs showing a carbon increase that people think are fake?
Countries across the globe all have scientists working on this, and it would require one impressive operation to fake all the data.

Nice. Yes I did grow up in MN and yes ND is a whole ‘nother level of cold. I think last year when we went back for Christmas on the way back to Montana my thermometer didn’t get above -20F until west of Glendive.

he got laid off earlier this spring.
as much as i didn’t want to, i offered him a job in our shop just to get them by until he found something. he declined saying he can make more on unemplyment than what we would pay him (never told him how much we would pay him so he was wrong on that account). so now that he MIGHT have a job come winter, he can’t afford to commit anytime for christmas because he MIGHT be working. And to top it off, when he was telling us he got MIGHT get this job, he said “it’s about time i actually started working, ya know?”
i have HUNDREDS of stories that EVERYONE here would love, but would be too specific that i wouldn’t want it getting back to him if anyone on here knows him.

My doctor is not a big mask believer. His philosophy is “suck it up and get tough”. My dentist on the other hand is a whimp. He requires masking at all times, except when your mouth is open for the dental work (which, ah, is most of the time). Plus the waiting room is closed and you have to wait in your car! So I wait in the car, get the call to come in, put the mask on, they take my temperature, then I sit in the chair and take the mask off and infect the entire office since I am asymptomatic.
It has nothing to do with sucking it up, and everything to do with the fact they DONT DO ANYTHING AGAINST AIR BORNE VIRUSES. Never have, never will. They are there to stop larger droplets like snot, spit, etc.
Masks were required at my sister’s hospital. Those were long days. I just sat with my back to the door and pulled it down whenever there weren’t workers in the room.

Wednesday morning the weather forecast was shite, my wife said you better not be driving that POS Ranger to work. I’m so much smarter than the average (read stubborn) that I pshawed that.
We walked at noon, the temps had risen, hovering around 25, snow falling, wind picking up. She says you should either come home now and read from your command station at the compound or have me come and pick you up in the 4WD F150. Don’t drive that POS Ranger. Pshaw.
6 pm. Dark.
There’s a bit of a grade climbing out of downtown to the interstate, my rear tires were churning, TSC kicking on, could barely nurse the pickup up the hill. Uh oh. Merge onto interstate, headlights glisten right off the black polished ice surface. Uh oh. Turn off onto MT-16, semis are jammed up on the ice slipping trying to get into the Flying J. Traffic at a crawl. Uh oh. Get two miles out of town, climbing the hill by the Farmer’s elevator, traffic moving about 40, I’m losing traction on the hill slowing slowing semi goes by the other way messing with the 40 mph wind coming from the west front end heads to the right ditch rear tires break away. Uh oh. I try to gently steer back into lane and whips to the left back end comes out I’m doing a skid at 45 degrees to the left at all of 30 mph. I’ve driven black ice before but never this bad, it was almost zero coefficient of friction. Knew I had a vehicle right on my rear bumper so after instinctually stabbing the brakes tried gently applying throttle steering back to my lane thinking I’m gonna hit the left ditch. As the nose comes back around I’m looking right at the headlights of an oncoming semi 80 yards away. FUCK! Somehow there was either enough traction or the VSC got me back into my lane without overcorrecting back into the left ditch. Cold sweat. I could barely get up the remainder of the hill at a crawl. Got home and when I came in the door my wife said nothing, just had this look.
LOL, story had me smiling the whole way through.
1) Can you turn off TSC? My son’s car calls it ESC and there’s a handy button that disables it. My driveway is a bit steep and turning it off is very helpful.

1) Yes, it is easy to disable. I actually disabled it in the shop as that slick epoxy floor has no friction with wet icy tires. Didn’t help. That Ranger is the most difficult to drive in the winter of any vehicle sans the ’67 Mustang I’ve owned. My progression of vehicles driven to work in the winter after I moved from Minnesota was Camry (plastic parts destroyed by Billings’ rutted streets), F150 (given to my wife to drive as most likely to survive Billings winter drivers), Lexus RX (door dinged by the stupid gougers), Polaris Ranger and finally the Ford Ranger. My wife has never never never approved of me driving the Ford Ranger in the winter, it has very poor winter driving capability.
2) Yes, 600 pounds in fact. I redistributed the sandbags into our other pickups.

That might be it. I dunno. It is just not pleasant to drive in winter. For that matter, the difference between my 2011 F150 which only came with 2WD/4WDH/4WDL and the 2021 F150 which has drive modes including SLIPPERY/ICE is a quantum leap of ease of travel.
I would guess that “slippery/ice” senses slippage and sends drive to other wheels – I’m imagining something like all 4 tires having their own independent TSC
My 2005 Tahoe works great in 4WH. It offers “auto-4WD” but I’m wary of it and don’t use it.
My Duramax has Traction Control and Stabilitrak. I had a 2011 F250 for work once upon a time and I thought it had something similar but its been awhile and I only drove that pickup for like 6 months. I think I’ve gotten stuck more because of that crap than its really helped me.

My procedures yesterday were in the afternoon so I worked from home in the morning. My compound looked like a frozen wasteland of snow drifts so I spent the early morning before work clearing it out with the tractor and a snow blade on my Polaris.
Wife took me to work. I officially retired the Ford Ranger to the far corner of the shop.
When she picked me up to go home, she told me she had bought me a “new” used car, by text, from the GM at the dealer in Dickinson (classmate of my stepdaughters). They’re gonna deliver it. So now we add a ’20 Volvo XC90 to our rather embarrassing large stable of vehicles. I’m gonna sell the Ford Ranger in the spring, 2011 with 17,000 miles.

I’ll see if I like it…remember I covet a Ford Maverick pickup so could always sell it in a year. Safety first and a big heavy ol’ Volvo SUV is safety with a capital S. Also, don’t be surprised if my wife appropriates it and I get relegated to the ’11 F-150, although when we discussed that on the way in to work this morning (she drove) I said well if that happens I’ll probably just start driving the Ranger again. For those that don’t know, that little Ranger was my dad’s last pride and joy, never drove it just washed and waxed it religiously. Had 3000 miles on it when my mom gave it to me in 2019.
My guess is that Mrs MT will try the Volvo and keep it. F-150 is a fine vehicle for ya. Five will approve.
Take a couple nice pictures of the Ranger and frame the best one. Then sell the thing!
Or not, it’s up to you. I sold my own dad’s pride & joy vehicle just last month. He’s still around, but too old to drive it. I’ve been putting around in it for in-town errands for a few years, but I needed space for the boat in the garage and jettisoned it.

Chains are for the mountains and deep snow. I usually only use chains when I’m already buried. Otherwise, I would probably bury my pickup and be totally screwed.

Five, I’d sell you the LS for $35,000. 2012 fully loaded with AWD, rear seat massage and recline, long wheelbase, etc… Kym could drive while you relax.

I think the Vikings will need to rely on the Cowboys to make mistakes in order for Minnesota to win this weekend. The Cowboys have advantages when passing, when running, and when on defense. I don’t see much potential for special teams to help out in a major way.
Fortunately, the game is at home. A loud crowd may help tip the table toward a Viking advantage with penalties and/or turnovers, which is likely necessary for a Minnesota win.
The Cowboys will have more of an advantage when passing than when running, so they should be better able to take the lead than to keep a lead. The Vikings, however, will have a better chance at keeping a lead by running than by retaking a lead through the air, however we know that high-leverage / low-probability plays have been working out well for Minnesota this year.
It feels like a disheartening loss that never feels close, or a yo-yo game that’s close in the end (but nowhere near as crazy as last week, obviously)
They Cowboys are very good at returning punts, so it’s a good thing that the Vikings are good at punting and punt coverage.
Cousins is riskier than usual this year, and that’s been both bad and good, but working out well so far.
Dak’s performances vary greatly, and we have fewer 2022 games to look at. The Cowboys are inconsistent in general (Vikings are actually pretty consistent)
Their WRs kinda suck (our WR2 [Thielen] is roughly the same value as their WR1 [Lamb])
Their TEs suck, Hockenson is good
Zeke and Cook are similar – Pollard is better. Hopefully Zeke plays.

I am a Cousins advocate. I have been waiting all year for him to bounce back. It hasn’t happened yet, and I think we have to assume it will not happen this season. That being said, this team is very diverse in its weapons, and we do not have to rely on one player for us to be successful
With Cousins & the Vikings winning in Buffalo, and especially with his willingness to huck risky throws at JJ, and especially with him running and lowering his shoulder into a defender, I have officially crossed over into the territory of being a fan of his.
I’ve always liked his view on life (except grilling) and have appreciated his toughness. I still dislike his cap% and the fact that he’s too often noticeably limited when the pass protection isn’t great and/or the skill position players aren’t significantly above average.
