Hey, sorry I didn’t get a second thread posted yesterday, I got busy and I didn’t remember to post it until yesterday evening, so my apologies. It’s a good problem to have, though. I really enjoy seeing the traffic, though. It reminds me of the old days.
As you know, the Vikings are traveling to London to take on the Saints on Sunday, it’ll be an early game with an 8:30 am kickoff. I actually like the early start, you can watch the game and still have the entire day to do important things, like fishing. We have to squeeze in as much shore fishing as possible while I can, the snow will be flying and the water will be ice before long. I always hate that time period between shore fishing and ice fishing. I’m not one of those lunatics you’ll see out ice fishing on an inch of ice. No thanks, I’ve gone through the ice once, I don’t care to ever experience that again.

Been over two years but for the first time I have seen in black and white a smoldering quasi-political issue that all hospitals/health care systems will have to deal with in the coming months and years.
I’ve never been super excited about the masks given that 90% of people wear them incorrectly, reuse dirty masks, touch them constantly, etc. How much they curtail respiratory virus spread is also a bit of a coin toss, you can find information on both sides. However, in the grand scheme of things they haven’t affected me very much, an advantage of sitting in a room all by yourself. I wear them when I leave my office within the hospital, have always (duh) wore a mask when doing sterile procedures anyhow.
Someone in the all physician email group pointed out the CDC is relaxing mask guidance for nursing homes and hospitals in areas of low transmission. However, 75% of the US is still high transmission.
The quick responses were predictable – we are entering respiratory virus season, patients are inadequately screened at the door, in a time of short staffing in healthcare now is not the time to risk physicians, staff, and other patients.
I wonder if the masks will ever go away in hospitals. Certainly if you use the tenet that if anyone is uncomfortable with a change in policy you must not change it I don’t see it.
I wonder if patients will vote with their feet in numbers enough to sway policy. Should be interesting if the other hospital in Billings takes a disparate approach.

I would be surprised if hospitals stopped the mask mandate, at least for the next 2 years.
I would guess the Feds (current administration) will say we won’t pay the hospital without the mandate.
While that is also a big deal (no CMS money = no mission no service), it is surprising how many vehemently defend the mask policies. It has been nearly verboten to have in person meetings for over two years now, even with social distancing and masking.
Policy is often directed by those who scream the loudest and the most.
I remember before COVID, during respiratory virus season, when I walked into a hospital or clinic there was always a stack of masks and sign that asked you to wear a mask if you had respiratory virus symptoms, I’m more favourable of that idea. I feel like that makes some sense, but if your coming in to treat your most recent bout of the clap I don’t see the point of wearing a mask.
What if it’s Covid Clap though?
That is by far my preferred approach, but anecdotally and observationally some people are either oblivious or opposed to the idea of masking so you always get some leakers.
The best arguments for masking that I’ve heard cite precedent of violating personal autonomy/freedom for other safety purposes, such as wearing a seatbelt or not smoking indoors.
I happen to think the data on those circumstances is better, though. I’m not a big case-law guy.
I’m of the opinion that the Safety Nazi’s have helped ruin America.

Yeah, I hate laws that only protect you from yourself. If you are an adult and choose not to wear a seatbelt in your car or a helmet on your motorcycle, that’s on you. Life’s about choices. If it means protecting kids or other people then ok, we can talk about it (DUI, kids wearing seat belts, life jackets, etc.).
A person not wearing a seatbelt is a danger to others in the car – imagine a body flopping around inside the car while you’re barrel-rolling down a hill

I just got over COVID round 2 a couple weeks ago. Wife and NW1 and NW2 unscathed. I didn’t mask at home, we all ate at the dinner table. I DID sleep in the basement, but that’s all the isolating I did.
3 months ago, wife had her second go-round with it. Same scenario at home. No masks, no isolating, nobody else got it.
Masks are fucking useless. Even more useless are the stupid “eye protection” we are also mandated to wear at work while treating a patient, that does nothing to stop airborne virions from accessing your corneas.
Masks will never go away. People are permanently scarred from the last couple years to ever go back. And for that small minority… we ALL must do what we can to placate their fear.

I’m anti mask, and 100% against masking little kids. I’ve seen too many studies all over the world that show they made virtually no difference. I wouldn’t be as strongly opposed to masking if you’re the one who is sick.

Seriously, how bad is downtown Minneapolis at night these days? We are heading to the Arizona game in late October. We used to always stay downtown and go to the downtown restaurants. Last year, due to the crime and riots etc…we stayed out by the Mall and just drove in for the game…Is downtown safe to frequent on Saturday nights these days?
Yes, I’ve been downtown a hand full of times the last year and half. My cousin who lived in the area was always like, “You’re going where?!? Be careful! This, this and this happened etc….” He is also the same guy who brought the group of people we had after a concert in May all over downtown until 2-3 am, it was a good time.

I asked over on reddit and the consensus is that ABC/KSTP (channel 5.1 for me) will air the game. TV Guide’s website doesn’t show that, but https://506sports.com/ does, and https://kstp.com/kstp-tv-schedules/ does also.

I think the NFL allows the local tv stations to bid for the NFL broadcast. It is on ABC in Mpls and CBS in New Orleans.
I have NFL+ on mobile. However, I also caved and went back to Hulu Live so I could see the games on my big tv.
I have regular Hulu (involuntarily – it comes free with T-Mobile and although I left TM years ago for Sprint, they bought Sprint and so now I’m stuck with them again).
