On this site, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, you should join us! This is the open thread, which is……open. Therefore, you will see discussion of nearly ANY topic here. Our one rule here is: “Remember, be cool to one another”. Also, a word to the wise, don’t feed the trolls. SKOL!!!!!!

Fill ’em up, and we’ll make another.

Thread’s Full!!!

Wow, this morning is going to be a long morning for me. I’m taking off a bit early today & getting kiddo out of school a bit early so that we can hook up the boat & get on the road to Devils Lake. The walleye aren’t really biting anywhere right now, but hopefully we can coax them out of their slumber & land a few.

We’re only two days away until Vikings football, as the Vikings will host the Cardinals on Sunday. Kickoff is at noon, unless the game would happen to get flexed to a prime time spot. This is unlikely, but you never know. I expect to see a fairly close game. Now, I expect the Cardinals get a lot of yards on Sunday, but if the Vikings defense can continue to prevent them from converting those yards into a lot of points, then the offense SHOULD be able to do enough to help the Vikings to get the W. I really hope the offense can figure out a way to “click”, as they have yet to put together a complete game this season. This would be a perfect week to get it figured out. Just win, baby. SKOL!!!!!!!!!!

b Rad was so excited about taking the runtling to the lake of the Devil, he didn’t post a weekend thread.

In spite of that it’s the weekend. Skolly is off to the inlaws for the golden shower, KFEY is working at the bar w.no pussy and bRad is off to the lake of the devil.
Thank goodness Jobu has our back and MT made it through gina pox.

Guess I shouldn’t be all that surprised. I know there is a repository of the floor murals for the dorms I lived in back in undergrad living on Flickr, I knew one of the years listed a bunch of our full names. I was thinking I wonder what happened to that a-hole that knocked me out with a right cross in a pick-up hockey game…oh yeah what’s he up to…probably an axe murderer…stumbled across a eulogy he gave for a guy that (get this) he met on 5H (my floor for three years). I remembered they were buds and that the deceased and one other guy absolutely slaughtered me and a fourth guy at 2 on 2 basketball one weekend, had to pay beer money out, etc.

Anyhow, so the a-hole and the Michael Jordan type roomed together for five years after living in dorms, beyond college. I had no idea.

The whole TL;DR part of my story which was of some interest was that 3 of the 20-some guys on the floor he said had died in the eulogy. Of course since I haven’t set foot in Edmonton in decades I have no contact with anyone but still struck me that 3 and possibly more early 50’s guys had died out of 20.

Seems weird with the lymphoma thing…a high school friend that I kissed but didn’t date (so I don’t want to make her haunt me for calling her a girlfriend) died of it…a girl I dated my first summer back home from college died of it, and two of the guys living in that dorm wing back in 86-87. Cancer, sigh.

Yeah being from WVa where there are some of the highest rates of cancers in the nation with things like lymphoma, lupus etc because of the chemical plants like Union Carbide and DuPont. So many people I grew up with dead.

these people aren’t inbred lol and they make 6 figures working in these plants it was always coveted jobs to get…but naturally with a huge cost. Death.

My examples aren’t even plant workers just citizens living in the greater counties around these plants. Exposer to leaks, ground water and toxic vapor that’s why cancer rates are so high.

Oh, I don’t know how you could have missed it, it was so @excellent@.

I have always wanted to visit the five towns on the Italian Riviera, near La Spezia. Since the student was from Pisa, I assumed she was familiar with them. Several times in casual conversation, I would bring it up and she would say I don’t know this place. I’m sure she found it odd.

I of course pronounced Cinque Terre the French way, but looked up the Italian pronunciation which is singk teh-ruh. Nope.

Finally one day she said maybe you can show me on a map? I pulled it up on my iPhone. It was so classic, (you have to picture an Italian teenager saying this), she said “OH! You mean shayn-quah teh-ruh!” It was so perfectly Italian. Of course she has been there often.

I have found that native English speakers have a hard time pronouncing certain phonemes from other languages, maybe that got in the way.

If they eliminated some of the bone headed play calls, evolve some plays to try and take some shots down field that’s primarily what the offense needs and that’s well within reason.

Defense worries me a bit more as we saw against the power house offense. Not sure outside of Hunter starting to beast a lot more, Wonnum getting more snaps and continuing to develop. I’m actually pretty impressed with our secondary and run defense is what it is bend don’t break.

Correct. The incremental increase in my compensation over time has solely been a result of increased productivity which is driven by increased demand for imaging interpretation. But no raises. Hence the problem with wage compression that is occurring in medicine right now. I would have to be insane to do what I do and get compensated the same as an NP seeing a dozen ambulatory patients a day.

Well boys and girls, I need to decide what to do with my life. As some of you may remember from earlier this year, my current job is winding down. I was supposed to be done at the end of June, but they had another big project for me to do. I will be done with that sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Here are my options.

  1. Set my book business aside and dive into a full time job working for the man for a few years until I retire.
  2. Keep going with my book business and find another part time job to supplement it.
  3. Throw myself full time into my book business and work a 60+ hours per week and see where it takes me.
  4. Let my wife be my Sugar Momma and work on getting into the top ten of the comment count list on Skoloholics.

Obviously number 4 is the correct answer, but I suppose I should at least look like I’m mulling the other options over a bit.

She is more of a romance book reader however, just not the trashy stuff, more of the historical or Christian romance stuff (is there such a thing?). Nice.

At an auction back in August I got a whole box of cookbooks. Unfortunately cook books are a dime a dozen, so most are not financially worthy of selling online.

Exactly. However, some people are collectors, so there are a few cook books that sell. I know some book sales are just for people that are reminiscing about their childhood.

It’s funny you mention cookbooks and nostalgia. There is a cookbook I was given while I was in college, I can’t recall the name, but it was published or written by the Edmonton Journal and was something something “Bachelor’s Cookbook”. It was a great resource for me but my girlfriend chucked it when we moved in together…I eventually married that gal so maybe her gambit paid off haha.

The other book I am nostalgic about that I threw out at some point when I realized I was never going to medical school was something like the “Real MD guide to becoming a doctor” or some such. It was very tongue in cheek but there have been times I wished I had it for the photos and illustrations which I would use to spruce up my staid presentations.

I sell on various sites and to let you know publicly I would have to share my last name. I’m skittish about doing that on social media. I am ok sharing it individually, but then you would have to be brave like LFA.

Depends on where you are on retirement. If you have 5 mill set aside I would go 4, but I have small needs. Doubt that would get MT a year.

Also depends what you are worth. Workforce is in the gutter and basic retards can run things since companies are so desperate. Turning down $500K a year to make $30k selling books seems silly unless you have the aforementioned $5 mill

One of my concerns is that age discrimination is real. It seems most companies want to hire young accountants. I’m not sure I want to wipe down tables at McD’s. I don’t have $5 mil, but again, like you, we have simple needs.

Corporations are desperate right now. You would get hired at way more than you likely expect. If you really are an accountant I would think you would make $200k and up

One of my degrees is in Accountancy. However, I have not used it much in the last 15 years. In the area I’m in the $200k would be CFO level and I’m not going back there. If I’m going to be putting in 60 hours per week, it is going to be in something I love, not just tolerate.

The sister I don’t doo-dad with might also be bipolar.

She’s not a druggie or a financial wreck or anything, just an angry angry person about anything or everything having to do with all people in our family.

She won’t tell anyone why, so figure it just might be a chemical imbalance or something therapy could help, but she won’t go.
