Five more days until Vikings playoff football! The Minnesota Vikings take on the New York Giants on Sunday, kickoff is at 3:30 pm central time. Once again, the Giants will likely bring a lot of blitzes and will do whatever they can to pressure Kirk Cousins. The Vikings will hopefully have an answer for this, as a well-timed screen can do a lot to neutralize a blitz. Let’s hope KOC and company are up to the task, I want to see a win on Sunday.
I’m not expecting a win on Sunday, but I’m sure hoping for one. It’s been a pretty lengthy playoff drought for we Vikings fans, so I want to see them make some noise. With this team, you just never know what could happen. We’ll find out in a few short days!!

Nothing to do with the spectacle on MNF, I’ve been thinking of purchasing an AED for my home for awhile. No history of heart disease in mine or my wife’s family but just seems like a good item for piece of mind. Can throw it in the RV when we travel, etc…
The question is if I go down, will my wife have the presence of mind to use it?

Nah, I still feel 18 in my head. I’m browsing the AED superstore, they aren’t all that expensive if you look at the cost benefit analysis. I’d hate to have, say, the kids’ dad/wife’s ex drop in the yard and die before an AED could arrive.
Same with those somewhat intriguing vacuum sucky things for popping things out of a choking person.
Can you get them for personal use pretty easily? I know for business use we have to work with Billings Clinic and pay them an annual fee. Maybe it’s different since you’re a doc and can write your own “prescription” and “management”? The one we have at our facility was about $2500 through the clinic a couple of years ago.

Even when I was looking at them online they said you were required to have a “prescription” or have a doctor management plan or something. That was a few years ago though so maybe that has changed? I know buying it through the clinic saved us about 1000 bucks though.
I was curious so I checked the AED Superstore and they provide the prescription for any AED’s they sell for use in the US. It says the medical oversight is state to state. I’m not sure if MT requires it but the 200 bucks a year we pay BC gives us some CPR training and quick access to replacement pads.

I’m not sure currently but when I bought ours they were about $2400 from Grainger and a little over $1700 through our local medical facility (MT).

So there are light rail stations all over the city, and I would highly recommend not hanging out on Lake St at night unless you want to buy drugs or get a hooker.
I take the light rail to sporting events all the time and its been just fine. Buy a 6 hour pass ahead of time. Its about $4 a person.
Honestly I think it’s the best way to travel in MSP, for that matter LRT or subway best way to travel in most cities.
Always get the hooker who has the drugs on her. Saves time.

If we choose to drive, is there any good places to park south of the stadium? I don’t mind walking a mile or two as long as we aren’t going to be stabbed. The crowds should keep the riff raff away, so I’m not too worried. I just don’t want to spend two hours trying to get out of traffic, so I’d rather park a mile or 2 away, preferably south of the stadium since our hotel is south.
Well, the mall has tons of parking spaces.
That isn’t within walking distance of the stadium, though. Also, we don’t want to get shot.
We have parked at the Cappella Towers Parking lot.
I think its 25 bucks now but kind of nice since its underground and pretty warm.
It can be kind of a shit show to get out of though.

I know live in the south suburbs and I park in the Fort Snelling Platform south lot.

So this is a light rail platform. Don’t park downtown. I work downtown and its a shit show during games..

South of Downtown by Franklin and lake street is dangerous after dark.
We’re going from the Great Wolf (down by the Mall) to the game and back. We’ll have a vehicle there.
So you are on a direct line to the stadium. I prefer just taking the light rail. I think its safer and easier than walking around the city. Plus, there’s a shit load of cops watching the light rail during games.
Parking is $40 and getting out of downtown is a mess. The area directly south of the stadium is rough by the Hennepin County Medical Center. Probably fine during games, but just as an FYI.
You make me chuckle. Sounds like my wife…oooh oooh the LRT there was a transient sleeping in the front of the car big deal. Instead she thinks it’s safer for some reason to take an uber with some guy fresh off the boat in diabolical post game traffic. I would take the LRT every. single. time.

Post game it’s all football fans. Prior to the game (assuming you go a few hours ahead of time) the train is practically deserted. This ain’t rush hour NYC subway.
Yeah, we’ll prolly take the dumb thing. I’d really prefer to drive, but I think that would be more headache than it’s worth. We normally stay at the Hyatt so we can walk to the game, so we’re not used to having to plan for this.
It will be worse after the game re: “packed in a tube” but still it’s a pretty quick trip.
If you get on at 46th or 50th and Hiawatha (Hwy 55) you can get off earlier and drive the rest of the way if you really really want to get off. Should be fairly quick to get to either of those stops.
I think it stops right in front of our hotel, so if we do get on the dumb thing, we’ll just ride it the whole way. I’m just not a fan of public transportation.

And yeah if you don’t have to drive to get on, might as well not. I really liked the 50th st station when I lived a couple miles away. So much easier to get downtown, because driving is horrendous.

Yeah, we stayed at the same hotel as you had recommended it. Took the LRT from the airport to the mall, then downtown to stay at hotel. After game we went back to hotel, grabbed bags, and took LRT back to airport. There was one of the colorful denizens of Minneapolis on the train raving to himself but we were in the back of the car with other fans, we mutually agreed to kick his ass and boot him off the train if he came our way.
Water park will be worth it. Your son will have a blast.

Light rail is something to avoid when not going to a big event. One of the last twins game I went to we did see a fight on the way home after a night game. But the train was packed with fans, and nobody pulled a gun. Idiots got off on the next stop and chased each other around.
I would never use it to commute, but for getting to a game it is pretty easy and I feel relatively safe.

My brother-in-law and I got lost down there walking once…luckily it was the middle of the day…yes a shit hole area.
I ride my bike all spring and summer right through that area to work. You’ll be just fine going to a game on the light rail through there.
We pretty much lived there for a couple years. Did a lot of bike riding myself down there. Used to go to a bar down on the corner, can’t recall the name of it now. It was next door to an outdoor store.
The Acadia is on the corner by Midwest Mountaineering. I like to go to Palmers since I’m fancy.
That’s the one! I stopped in there frequently, it was right up the road from where we stayed.
Its closed right now, and Palmers is actually a dump. Don’t go there.
I don’t drink anymore, so no more bars for me. This was back in the early to mid 2010s when we were there.

Good luck. I got my 5-yr old out Sunday after watching the first half. We had to ATV it out, almost got stuck in slush a couple times, but found a spot where the crust was thick enough to support us. Brought home 11 crappies – he caught 5 of them and lost a big one at the top of the hole (Dad was too slow to snatch it).
No worries about ice thickness here. It was over 12in before Christmas and we had that massive 10 day cold front move in around Xmas. Should be close to 2ft. You can drive a semi on the ice.
Hardest part around here is accessing the lake. You have to have an ATV to get into 90% of the lakes here.

Reality is though if I remember the pull tabs were a huge financial windfall for the city, county and taxpayers have already paid back the taxpayer investments and are now producing net gains as are all the events at the stadium. I think from an economics standpoint the stadium has been a massive success even better than projected.
The state was going to start doing e-pulltabs regardless, they just chose that route to pay for the stadium over the usual bonds and other bullshit.

I did 14 once about 2 years ago. Nowhere close to that now being away from max strength stuff and more on flexibility and plyometrics
Yeah, we talked a bit about weight lifting a few years ago. I mix in kettle balls these days, and go to some kick boxing with my wife.
I don’t spar at kickboxing. I just go to get a workout, and they have some good flexibility exercises as well.
That’s an excellent routine. I’ll get back to some hypertrophy and max strength early spring to get my beach bod ready for the ladies.

No, I did 280 for a few reps, I think that is the highest I ever went.
325 was my max at my best and that was at the end of a bench session. Never did more than that and that was plenty for me at 205 lbs body weight at the time.
I’ve never done more than 315. Got 2 reps on my own and a 3rd with a spotter doing minimal help. I don’t bench heavy like that any more.
These days I rarely go over 275 and will mix in dumbbells.
Sometime around Thanksgiving I got 6 reps at 285.
I was happy with that.
When I was working out, 40 years ago, I could bench 175 for 10 reps.
