One more day removed from Saturday’s magnificent comeback victory, and our thoughts begin to turn to the Giants game next Saturday. This is another game where the Vikings seem to match up well against the opponent. The rush D will have their work cut out for them as they go up against Saquon Barkley and the Giants rushing attack. Hopefully our secondary can continue the momentum they built with solid play in the Colts game and keep it going against the Giants. If so, we could see good things on Saturday.
For just one game, it would be nice to get an easy win. Is that too much to ask? We’ll find out in a few short days. SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah but if the refs are going to allow it to happen why wouldn’t you? If you don’t find the line, keep pushing until you do and then back off but not until then. A ref or two that turns a blind eye might need to get run over while somebody runs a route. Hockenson across the middle into the back judge would suffice.

I like them both BUT haven’t had a dog since HS because I have no kids so I can up leave and do whatever the fuck I want. Dogs ruin that, have to find a place for them, or something. Cats, give them a clean litter box, I have an automatic feeder, gravity fed water, they are good for 7-10 days easy lol.

Looking at stub hub for cheap tix to Gabriel Iglasias (sp?) and other shows.

Good info! I have asked on some whisky pages I’m on on Facebook about suggestions and most I have called and they don’t have any scotches that really peak my interest. I did find a Longrow at RiRa and I heard their fish and chips are super good. I had to call places and ask them about their scotches and they were clueless. Irritates me. lol. I use to really enjoy cigars until I started smoking weed in my early 30s. I have a very hard time not inhaling cigars anymore lol.

I like the challenge of trying to tame and catch them. The ones we have out at the farm are half wild, and I have slowly been building their trust. I have never seen cats this hard to tame. I think it is because they are getting only dry cat food. We always gave cats (and dogs) table scraps growing up.
Dry food just doesn’t have the same bribing ability with half-wild cats. I get better results if I bring them warm, real food. They then allow me to furtively brush against them. Soon, though…they will be caught and gratuitously petted!

Yeah, it’s funny, my older Lab always goes under the barbed wire fence so as to not deposit inside his “territory”…first two times the new Lab just pooped on the compound side but pretty soon figured out the same thing. I was actually hoping he wouldn’t figure out how to traverse the barbed wire fences until after this cold snap (as he hadn’t been introduced to cows, and I didn’t want to stand out there keeping an eye on him). However, just this morning he walked off lead through the thick of the cattle and just kept looking at me as I gave him the “I’m watching you” hand signal.
I have one of those automatic litter boxes. Love that thing. Just change the box once a month & I’m good.

Matters 100%, you get to have linemen downfield if the ball is caught behind the LOS. The trade off is there is no pass interference. So you could go murder a receiver if he’s waiting for the ball in the air if he’s behind the LOS because lineman can be down field. At least that is my understanding at the HS level. I think it’s the same in the Pros.

I’m like 99% sure about you can have linemen down field. That’s just the basics of the screen game BUT not sure about the pass interference. Let me know what you find. Curious.
You’re right…ineligible receiver down field only applies to forward passes (beyond the line of scrimmage).

I don’t think so…From what I can see in High School and College you can block downfield if the ball is completed behind the line of scrimmage, but not in the NFL…

I think the idea is that’s the trade off. Because blockers can be downfield impeding your path to the receiver that makes the receiver eligible to be hit. But again, not sure in pros. The thing is no matter how many times in HS I’ve told a DB to watch for that quick bubble screen to just go light him up, they never get there before the ball anyway. Maybe right after or if they do get there they are jumping it for a pick.

Just sharing some tunes I’ve done from the past. Sure I’ll catch some hell for putting myself out there (I expect nothing less from this crew lol love it) but these 3 tracks mean a lot to me. Wrote them when going through some tough shit a while back on my mom’s 1968 Gibson ES-335 which is a semi-hollowbody guitar. It’s the same type of guitar Clapton used… I wanted to see if I could make that guitar make heavy rock/metal. It really did work well. Rough Mixes because they aren’t finished products. Hope to get someone to add vocals at some point in time. One track has a friend doing the lead-work as I am more of a rhythm guy. Not currently in a band so it’s just fun to be able to share. If anyone cares, cool, if not, also cool lol.

Even though he oddly plays the main riff to Walk incorrectly. Benante doesn’t have the skills to play Drag the Waters properly so they shouldn’t do that song but oh well.

Thanks! Yeah I am not a lead guy but I do fancy myself as a decent rhythm player. I write shit in odd timings not on purpose, just works out that way. Sometimes I’m not even aware of it until I’m writing the drums and I’m like, shit, this isn’t 4/4. This current song I am working on right now the main riff is a set of 9 followed by a set of 10. Really odd but again, it doesn’t sound as odd as it should. This one is much heavier. It’s in drop A.

I have written many a riff in 5. But off the top of my head no. BUT what comes to mind to me is the theme song for Orgasmo, Matt Stone and Trey Parker movie. The chorus is in 7.

Even themselves, they shit on themselves a lot. But that song you would never know it’s in 7 because it’s still catchy until you actually count it out.
Very cool! And yeah, I am assuming you’re writing this by playing it which IMO makes it much easier to learn a song in “odd time” by feel. Repeat a phrase enough, or make it long enough, and it doesn’t feel/sound as odd as it might look on paper. Plus, with how prog metal really took over the scene in the 90’s I think anyone who is a fan just intrinsically noodles or writes songs that have time changes or odd signatures because that’s so prevalent. Almost has become natural for that genre.
A bit off topic genre-wise, but one of my favorite jazz songs I’ve ever played has a couple 7/4 sections that looked like hell on the sheet music, but after we listened to the song it made so much more sense. Almost feels like double time, which flows better when jumping from 4/4 to 7/4.

Oh killer, I’ll have to check that out! I think rhythm wise the bands that put me in awe at times are Rush, Meshuggah, Gojira, and Mastodon. All of them at times but Meshuggah always. They are just a study in rhythm basically.
I initially mentioned Rush as an inspiration because though other prog bands might have done odd time first (actually the Beatles in Sgt Pepper tho), they really felt like me to be the OG for prog metal because of Neil Peart’s insanity on the set along with those odd times.
I’m not very into the heavy sound of those metal bands, but I do have a lot of respect for the musicality. Some of the Tool/Dream Theater stuff in that genre is amazing to me.
BTW, this convo made me remember a series of videos where they have a funk/fusion drummer listen to a song for the first time and then try to play along with it. Some absolute monsters on the set out there.

And this interview with him playing some James Brown shows that, at least a little bit, funk influenced those insane prog drummers. This ‘fatback’ beat definitely has that odd time feel to it, basically just subverting your expectations of when that backbeat is going to hit.
Wow, just listening it sounds difficult. Initial listen (not knowing the song) I thought some 6 snuck in there but I probably just missed a count of 7 lol.
It’s really weird, I have trouble counting those sections even now. But I know the song well enough it just feels right. Also really like how that song has sections repeated 4 or 6 times to keep layering on new instruments and parts.
That’s pretty cool you can play that stuff. My wife likes jazz. She likes lighter stuff. It relaxes her while light stuff actually makes me jittery. I need heavier stuff.
She said she once read an article that introverts can relax to heavy music because it gives them a way to vent emotions they can’t get out otherwise. Vice versa, extroverts relax to more relaxing music because they deal with those emotions more naturally.
I know a couple people in law school who did all their studying listening to blast beat stuff. Makes absolutely no sense to me haha.
I can’t do any studying or reading, or even sleeping, listening to music other than maybe the lowest of lo-fi. My brain just kicks in and starts to analyze/play along and I lose focus or wake up.
When I was younger I use to have music to help drown out other distractions but I am the same now as you. I just go into analyze mode. Sleeping is 100% a no go.
I don’t know if I’ve ever been able to do it. Too much stimulus for my brain to relax. I tried rain sounds a few times too and my brain just tried to find a pattern in the sounds. Thankfully I found that listening to some podcast or other video of a person talking at a barely audible volume usually puts me right to sleep.
I have to have a fan running when I sleep. Silence is way too loud!
Plus, I have tinnitus from all the loud music I listen to, so when it gets quiet, I listen to ringing…
I have a fan and a very quiet something or other otherwise my mind just goes crazy as soon as I lay down haha
My girlfriend has an app she has to play on her phone that does ambient sounds. Just background noise. I don’t mind it. I wear ear plugs almost all concerts and band practices. Like my hearing too much to lose it.
I’ve been wearing these since marching band in high school, unless I’m wearing in-ears. Been a life saver and it doesn’t block frequencies like normal earplugs do.
I have some heroes or etymonic that look like that. I like them.

hey MT – if you’ve got capacity for some free advice, I’ve got a question.
I’ve had a cough for nearly a month (got it shortly after Thanksgiving), and it’s not letting up. It was accompanied by other symptoms (fatigue, soreness, stiffness, headache, congestion), but for the last couple of weeks it’s just congestion and cough.
Lot of dry coughing (non-productive), but I took a small box worth of expectorant (recommended daily dosage over three days) and that seemed to change the cough to productive, but I finished the medicine a couple days ago and the cough persists.
Am I dying?
DUDE! Same! It’s has come and almost gone 3 times in the last month and a half. End of last week I was miserable, the last 2 nights were the first time in like a month I didn’t use Nyquil to go to bed. Hopefully shit shit is OVER! I think we’ve talked about this before like a week and a half ago.

have you taken mucinex or the generic? (expectorant) It’s kinda pricy so I started with a 2 day supply hoping that would be enough. I may pony up for the 4 day box though.
I did the Mucinex like all in one liquid that was OK but this last round I bought the strongest Mucinex DM and that helped A LOT. My girlfriend got the same shit and that helped her a bunch too. I think I spent 30 bucks for like 15-20 pills but they were 12 hour extended release. Best shit I have used for this.
I did the max strength Mucinex for about a week back in January when I had the ‘vid. Worked great for me.

Yep, he should be fine. My dad had a heart attack at like 33, another late and lived to 73. Actually, he died on this day. Was a shit day for me. My sister has a heart attack too. She’s doing pretty good
Kid I went to school with had a heart attack at 33 or so, too. Made some lifestyle changes (he was drinking more than a 12 pack of Mt. Dew a day and smoking over a pack a day)/ His heart attack was 15 years ago or so, and he’s doing well now.
Yep, we are getting to that stage. One of my classmates just had a major heart attack. Got a pacemaker and two stints. Despite that, he said he feels better than he has in a long time and has started making some changes.
Man, a classmate of mine died maybe 5 years ago of cancer. She was probably the nicest & smartest person I’ve ever known, such a great gal. Never smoked, never drank in high school (the rest of us did), but was always really cool to talk to. Not long after she died, her younger sister died of a heart attack while jogging. A couple years later, her mom died. Only one left is her dad. Unreal.

This is an unfortunate time of year to lose a family member.
My dad’s father died of a heart attack at 59 and my dad is still around at 73. Genes are one thing, but lifestyle matters a lot.
The worst, especially in Minny. My mom died Dec 6th as did her SIL (her brother’s wife who she was close to). Was freezing all of those and all of them are buried at Ft Snelling. My mom’s dad died the day after Christmas when she was 14 so it was always a bittersweet time and their anniversary was NYE too. Live each day to the fullest, take no shit, do what you want to do.
Been to a few burials at Ft Snelling in the last couple years. Not many things as sobering as standing out in the cold for that.
Yup. The 21 gun salute is sobering. My dad could have died in Korea though and then the entire world would be worse off as I wouldn’t be here.
Hoping my next trip there is delayed a few years. Got a great-uncle “Chunk” who served in Korea, just broke his hip and then his arm in a couple of falls within a month’s time. They ended up proving that the nurse who was supposed to be watching him stepped away for the first fall, so they got something out of that anyway.
But he’s doing much better physically, even though the dementia is setting in.
Hope he sticks around for a while. Great, great man.
Falling is generally bad for the elderly. I think my mom told me that she figures if she falls and breaks something, she will be gone shortly after that. It seems like falls take a lot out of a person at that stage.
My grandpa fell just about 8 years ago, broke his leg and was gone January 3rd. It goes way too fast.
We finally got mom moved into a house where she doesn’t have to go up and down steps all the time, so that helps.
I need to figure out a way to solve the falling problem when I get old. I’ve got a long way to fall at 6’7!
I remember my step-uncle calling me one morning about 20 years ago because he fell. I had to go there and help him up. He was caught between the bed and the bedside table, his urine bottle spilled all over him, and he simply could not get up.
He had a good humor about it, though, at least.
Yup, take all the precautions you can even with a single floor home. My grandpa fell in the bathroom of their single floor home.
Can’t imagine getting stuck with a urine spill… at least he had a good sense of humor about it haha. Not much else you can do.

I’m fine. I was at work and was going to be home the 23rd for xmas so it sucked and it was the first time losing a parent. You can not explain what it is like to people as that is a special relationship. He was a warrior in all ways.

Yup and my dad (as did Kym’s) lost his health due to diabetes. BTW, Kym’s dad died 3 years ago yesterday. Both had amputated legs, etc. Both like to hunt/fish, be active. I’m hoping MT and lifer can learn bridge or knitting so they have something to do in the old folks home.
Lifer and I don’t smoke cancer sticks and have a healthy diet high in milk, bread and kale. Gonna be climbing Granite Peak at 98.

Yeah, I was 10 when mine died. Definitely something missing after that.

I have no idea of what your health/fitness level is but I can’t recommend enough DDPY, yes it’s corney but they have regimens from people who are bed ridden to Professional/Olympic athletes and everything in-between. Best decision I ever made for my back and overall health. Do what you need to do.

I went to a wedding in PA this fall, the resort had a Big Buck Hunter and we brought the bride’s brother (forest/wildlife officer for DNR and hunts all the time) and a bunch of other people into the arcade for about half the reception to get wasted and compete in Big Buck Hunter.

I’m sure you could, I knew some rich kids in high school that had a bunch of the original Pacman/Donkey Kong/Space Invaders in their basement. Was a lot of fun, but I think they’re a little spendy.
A guy I work with has built a couple. He uses a computer and gets an old arcade body. You can play hundreds of games.
I wouldn’t mind finding a couple of the original classic games for in the garage. Just take care of it & it’ll appreciate in value.
You can buy a double gun one from Scheels that plugs into your TV. Mine has gotten a little iffy connecting sometimes but the kids love it.
So one of my memories of my childhood and teen years…we would go to the mall so my mom could shop…she could spend an hour in a store, try on lots of stuff, and not buy one thing…rinse, repeat.
My dad and I would sit outside the store in the mall hallway, he would make an imaginary end zone connecting the end of the bench with “that pillar”…as innocent women would sequentially pass enter the end zone on their way to Zellers they in alternating turn would become “his” or “mine”. A lot of “uh oh, looking bad for you son” and “no no I think that beauty is going to beat her in the race to the end zone”.
A little warped but it did pass the time.

Actually much of the time we would go to Southgate…I believe that was Edmonton’s first mall. WEM was bananas back at Christmas…another one of those nostalgic things, in college we would take the bus, head to WEM, do some Christmas shopping, go to one of the 36 movie theaters, etc…I am not exaggerating when I say the halls were packed with people, like cattle herded into a chute, felt like if you fell to the floor you would be trampled to death. Saw a newscast about Rimrock mall in Billings this year, looks like a ghost town, two walkers in this long hallway. Different times I guess.

Kirk will be here through next year. After that, hard to say.
It sure seems like they’re gearing up for a roster purge in 2024, most new & restructured contracts are set to expire after 2023 (including Kirk’s).
Seems that way but if we make a deep run this year and next… expect Kirk to be back especially if he continues to play like this
