Many thanks to Lifer for covering the thread yesterday. I was traveling back from Billings, and forgot to get the thread ready. After posting the wrap-up, I was happy to have a break from that crap fest of a game, and I was on vacation, so it was easy to forget to do. Anyway, much appreciation to Lifer.

Sigh. The game. That horrible, crappy, stinky game. What do you do with that? Do you need to do anything with that? I don’t know. There are no excuses for that performance, but I don’t think we need to read too much into it, either. There is no logical reason to expect the Vikings to go undefeated, so getting overly worked up over a loss is illogical to me. That being said, I HATE that team, and I HATE losing to that team. Jaire Alexander is a classless clown.
This is a flawed team that has been finding ways to win games all year. They currently sit at 12-4, are NFC North Champs and are the #3 seed going into the playoffs*. If you’d have told any of us at the beginning of the year that the team would be in this position heading into game #17, we’d have been elated*.

I don’t EXPECT this team to go all the way, or to mow through any team in the regular season or the playoffs. That doesn’t mean that this team can’t pull off some crazy playoff run and finally win the ultimate prize. Is it likely? Hell no, but we’re in the playoffs, so it’s possible. I’m gonna enjoy the ride, and I’ll get to see round one in person. I can’t wait! SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Minnesota Vikings News:
One of those situations where you realize that there are things more important than sports. Last night’s Monday Night Football game was suspended after Bills S Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field, story courtesy of CBS Sports. It was very strange. Hamlin made a tackle, and looked fine as he stood up, but then he just fell over. They were performing CPR at one point, and Hamlin was removed from the field in an ambulance. As of this writing, the players are still not back on the field, and Hamlin’s condition is not known. Prayers to Hamlin and his family and friends. So sad.

His uncle said he had to be resuscitated twice, once in the field and once in the hospital. A reporter who was on the scene last night said the ambulance waited for 5 to 7 minutes in the parking lot for his mother to exit the stadium. The hospital was only 2 minutes away. He’s still fortunate there were doctors and equipment on site, but that seems a little odd to me. They worked on him for 19 minutes. They couldn’t get the mother there in that amount of time or just have the police take her to the hospital rather than keep the ambulance waiting.
That IS odd. Any NFL associate or squad could have brought her there.
It was only two minutes away. I don’t get it.
So they waited for 5 to 7 whole minutes in such a situation to wait for the mother, instead of rushing him to the hospital immediately that is 2 minutes away from the stadium and having the mother brought there by somebody? This sounds really strange.

Something I could see happening is the NFL backing on their word for week 18 games staying on schedule.
They move all games back a week and lose the bye week in between championship games and SB. Then make Cincy and Buff play Monday.

That’s why if you notice experienced physicians will say very similar things when delivering bad news. They teach you to be very empathetic and to sit and give the patient and family time to process and ask questions but you end up saying the same things over and over. Better to give a synopsis and brief outline of next steps and then give time to come up with questions etc while moving on to next patient. The questions are always more focused a few hours later.

I haven’t seen the 1st thread but I’m sure Damar Hamlin is on everyone’s mind. Obviously his health comes first but once that is settled I’m wondering how this impacts the game going forward? Not this season but the FUTURE of the NFL and the sport in particular. I think it’s inevitable that the schedule gets moved to 18 games (with preseason cut two 2 games) and Goodell has made no secret his intention to put MULTIPLE franchises overseas – I wonder if that can help save the sport. Public outcry on player safety and the effects of the game long term had already reached a fever-pitch. This was live, with many watching and many more tuning in after hearing about it via social media. But Europeans, in my opinion, have a stomach for such violence on the field of sport and I’m wondering if tapping into those markets might be what rejuvenates fandom and ultimately saves the game. I’ve always looked at playing games in Europe as a novelty and it didn’t seem logistically plausible to have a franchise overseas with travel issues but now I’m wondering if that’s what needs to happen to save the sport.

I agree. Don’t think it’s a death knell by any means. But I do think it’ll make many reconsider letting their own kids play. If the numbers of kids playing football year and in year out begin to dwindle, that’s a problem.

The money is huge. There aren’t too many jobs where you can make that much money. It is a huge draw, especially for the exceptionally gifted athlete.

Not only that but this was just some freak thing that happened.
Players have died before playing football and other sports. But because this happened on Prime Time tv, a lot more people saw this happen. I tend to think that the uproar will eventually die down. Will there be any changes? I don’t know. But what change can you make to stop freak occurrence from happening?
The only way the NFL ever changes is for financial reasons.

This is true. Be interesting to see the algorithm of people on Twitter that grabbed ahold of this as another reason to be mock-outraged. This isn’t anything new and the innovations in player safety have come light years from the early days of the NFL or even the black and blue days of the 1970’s. It’s a way safer sport now compared to then.
Told you nerds this likely ends in a tie. Commish said won’t be played this week. Only thing I could think of is they shift playoffs and lose the gap between playoffs and SB. That seems highly unlikley

Technically chiefs are the 1 seed right now. That’s why it’s tough but since commish didn’t move it to this week I just don’t see how they squeeze it in.

That’s an option but then all teams get a bye wildcard weekend while Bills and Cincy play? Plus the NFL loves that extra week to hype up the SB
There is no perfect solution, but this one seems to have the fewest down sides.
Think the best solution is they agree on tie and chiefs are 1 seed. Unfortuate but i’m sure both teams sign off on it

Shift the rest of the AFC (or both) back a week. Then, the wild card round would be Jan 21-22, Divisional round the 28-29, Conference championships on Feb 4-5, then the Super Bowl on Feb 12.
He said no changes to week 18 scheudle so all AFC teams still play as scheudled. The only way to make it work is give all teams a bye except bills/cincy. Bills win then they’ll get bye. Problem is if they lose then Chiefs get 2 weeks off?
