Another day removed from the loss to the Lions, and our attention is turning to the upcoming game against Indy. It’s a Saturday kickoff for the next two games, as the Indy game and the Giants game on Christmas Eve will both be Saturday games. The Vikings SHOULD handle business on Saturday and get back on the winning track. There’s no excuse for not putting the North away on Saturday. None. Get it done.

Cops need to be paid more…some teachers are paid plenty and we still get shitty teachers…but in some places teachers are underpaid.
Entry level is around 40k in Minneapolis. Then they have to buy their own school supplies & some other furnishings.

IDK what you’re talking about, my MIL is a teacher and works 9 mos a year between over two weeks for xmas and around 2.5 mos off for summer.
The 4 friends of mine who are teachers are working throughout summer updating curriculum, planning new teaching activities, getting ceritifications, and probably a bunch other stuff I am forgetting.
Judging the whole profession based off of a few examples seems oddly familiar in this context…
My wife was that kind of teacher as well, worked her ass off all summer revising lesson plans keeping everything fresh, staying up on the latest literature etc…weekends during the school year were consumed with school work. Never watched a Vikings game with me, always at the table doing school stuff….
But yes there are those who put in the minimum (9 months and no weekend work)
Those are generally the bad teachers, or the phy ed teachers.
I’ve never known a phy ed teacher that wasn’t just doing it to be a coach.
Now that I think about it, that could actually be a really great class to get kids educated and think more about being healthy. Especially now with all the more available distractions.
Go figure, most of my memories of high school revolve around phys ed…I mean who is going to remember sitting through Social Studies learning about the cotton gin?
Thing was, I sucked at phys ed but needed an A to get recommended (ie not have to write final exams in any subject), so I worked real hard. I can remember having to get three arrows inside the inner rings of a target, a frickin’ nightmare trying to pull the bow to full draw. Oh and getting two chipped teeth (still have them) from Knuckles McBearfists during the boxing week.

True story, both ninth and tenth grade somehow my gym class was merged with a class the year above us, which included some guys that had failed a couple of years. So you had matriculation track 9th and 10th graders combined in a class with technical track 10th and 11th graders. One goon (Sheldon Boyd – dick) speared me full force in the back of the knee when we were playing no pads hockey in gym class – that might be the most pain I ever experienced, gave me cold chills and took a month before I could walk without a limp. Nowadays I would want to have the patient checked for a popliteal artery aneurysm. Of course I said nothing cuz I feared the tattletale label.
Oh I had fun in those classes, but it might as well have been an hour of recess.

Yeah, there are CEUs they’re required to keep up with, some do it during the year, some do it in the summer. Probably depends somewhat on what subject you’re teaching as well as the school district. My SIL is also a teacher out in WY, and chooses to teach summer school that’s 6 weeks long, she also makes around 75k a year and can retire with a full pension at 50 y/o at the average of her top 3 years of salary, where you are and how much your state/district makes in tax revenue makes a yuge difference for salary and bennies.
I doubt she can retire at full salary…probably at 60 to 65%. I will look it up, but that still isn’t bad. My wife just retired at age 58 with 63% of salary guaranteed for life…but it does not adjust for inflation….still not a bad deal though.
Yeah, you’re right actually, I think she’s planning to retire at 50 at a percentage but she’ll already have 28 years working in the state as a teacher at 50 and you can retire with full benefits when the combination of your age and experience is 85 so I think she can retire fully at 54. Doubt there’s much difference between 54 and 50 as far as percentage.
Yes not full salary, a 54 year old who had taught 32 years would retire with about 65 percent of their salary….

I think full retirement for teachers, game wardens, highway patrol and other state law enforcement is 85% of the average of your 3 highest years’ salary. (It is for the law enforcement and I may be mistaken but I think teachers are at least similar if not under the same blanket).
All of the guys I was on the volunteer fire department with (I guess it should be called part paid but what do I know) retired after 20 years, they get a check of the month. It ain’t life changing but it ain’t chicken feed either. Meanwhile I was disimpacting a megacolon filled with feces, and paying for the experience.

Some cops are paid plenty and we still get some crappy cops. There are crappy people in every job. The good ones need to be acknowledged.
At least cops make boatloads with all the overtime, saw many are significantly above 100k and some making triple their salary due to OT.
I’m guessing they would prefer not to work that much but you are correct, at least they’re getting good pay for the extra time.
I would not call 100k boatloads, especially when you have to work 60 hours a week, put your life on the line and deal with almost nothing but the lowest forms of human life on a daily basis.

I don’t know where you’re getting 100k from. Starting rate for a city cop here was like 20 bucks an hour a few years ago. I know some higher paid law enforcement officers and they make less than 100k by quite a bit (and they are the highest paid in their profession in the country).

Minneapolis at 5.5k (66k annual), Inver Grove up to 72k annual.
Top wages (for non-supervisory roles) were 7.9k and 8.3k – basically 100k base.
So a bit of an overstatement for me to imply 60 hours a week would be 200k for starting, but not far off for top earners – which doesn’t encompass Sergeants and above.

I went to HS in Belle Fourche SD, the most brutal thing was potentially burning yourself in welding or Ag class. Though 99% of us in HS had access to guns nobody ever brought anything to school. I felt very safe.

Had a computer we use for aligning our sensors bricked up during Windows update, spent an hour at “configuring updates – 100% complete”. Hard restart and it was stuck at 35% for another half an hour.
Ended up trying something from Google I thought was ridiculous while waiting around and unplugged the USB for the mouse and keyboard. Within a minute it finished the update configuration.

I just barely missed a wreck last night on my way home. We didn’t get much snow yesterday but the roads seemed like they might be getting that nice night time ice coating. I wasn’t in any particular hurry so I was cruising happily down the interstate at 55 when some dumb dumb decides he has to get in front of me. He flies up and past then cuts into my lane, barely missing my front bumper and hits his brakes. I brake lightly and feel my tires break loose, manage it and give him space. While this is happening, I look in the rearview mirror to make sure I’m not gonna get rear ended and see the car behind me go into a helicopter spin. While also watching dumb dumb I didn’t see the whole thing but saw headlights on the shoulder so thought she managed it. When I got to work this morning though, somebody who left a little after me said he saw a car in the ditch in the same location so the shoulder stopper must have been a good Samaritan. Moral of the story, slow the f down and leave room for other people. Now is not the time to pretend you are in the Daytona 500.

So even though chief didn’t remind me, I wanted to share my “bitchy” nurse story.
FTMP I just take orders from nurses and rad techs. Like I am technically the one giving the orders but they tell me what they want answered and hint at how they want it answered and we are all happy.
It’s a little different when you are on the other side and want something from them.
So the surgeon popped out at 0900 after my wife’s 0730 surgery start time, gave us the deets, said you’ll be able to go back and see her soon, she is in PACU. Two and a half hours of sucky time later (only news is “she’s still in PACU, having a hard time waking up”) my stepdaughter and I are invited back to outpatient surgery to see her. She looks like she walked in front of a cement truck, but she’s talking, etc. The nurse that was her primary caretaker for the next three and a half hours was awesome, explained that she had pain postop, they gave her fentanyl, she fell asleep, O2 sats dropped, woke her back up, around and around it goes, in the PACU. She asks me if we should try Toradol, I said I don’t think it would be helpful, how about ibuprofen and acetaminophen, she smiles, “well doctor you’re the boss let’s do what you ordered”. Comes back with the meds, Mrs. takes them, nurse tells her I think you should take a nap and reset that pain a little, which was good advice.
I’m gently rubbing her side and back, she is dozing off, BAM CRASH someone knocks something over in the next stall. Just starts dozing, and a different nurse aka “bitchy” nurse comes in, says I’m gonna hook up your SCDs, gets her all uncovered and chilled and wakes her up hooking up the leg squeezers. A couple of minutes later I go out and ask if I can grab a couple of blankets from the warmer, awesome (a) nurse gives me thumbs up, b nurse frowns.
Various other interruptions ensue, no sleep, then a nurse says she’s going on break do we need anything? A minute later the #^$#&ing O2 sat probe stops reading, the alarm starts WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP MFer! I put the probe on my hand, it is not reading, clearly a problem. I push the nurse button on the thingy, b nurse comes in and gives me the eye roll when I told her the O2 sat wasn’t working. She does some button pushing and stuff, puts it back on my wife, stares at the monitor for a minute (no pulsatility is registering), and leaves without a word. Ten minutes later I’m like, “Seriously, you just left that #&%^#&$ing thing bonging away”? Push the nurse button, b nurse comes in, I’m like disconnect that thing as it isn’t working. “We have to have it on her while she is in OPS…” Well it isn’t working, I can keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn’t stop breathing she needs to take a nap. “It is working, we have used it all week, it works fine.” I give her my rare steely glare, it is clearly not working, either disconnect it or turn it off. Holy hell did I get the eye roll and glare back. She left without a word. Ooooh smoldering rage.
Five minutes later a nurse came in, said that monitor isn’t working, we’ll just put a portable on it, and you let us know if any problems, okay.
Since the door of the “room” was a curtain, I could hear b nurse grumbling about a guy that was being unpleasant, a nurse said quietly um he is a radiologist here…
I blame Ponder.
