There are some changes on the site. If things are a little too spicy on the Back Page you’re always welcome on the Front Porch.
The initial Vikings injury report is out and its not looking like a good one for the guys in Purple. There is good and bad news, like Darrisaw upgraded to LNP, but having so many Key guys out with an illness… well that’s no good. Have a look for yourself. At this point in the season, at 10-2, any Vikings fan who has been alive more that a few minutes is waiting ever so patiently for the other “shoe to drop.” Will it be this week vs. Det? Could be, they always find a way to play us well. As the week progresses a bit more we’ll see who comes off and who stays on the injury report, but as it sits right now, if those guys don’t get healthy its really not looking like they’ll leave DET with a W.

I know it is late and I’m mostly talking to the air and a few steadfast, hardy souls, but here it is. Sometimes when I get tired I get, well maudlin is not really the word, maybe more melancholy, and then I ponder life. There are days I really enjoy being on the Back Page. We have good conversation, we joke, laugh, kid each other and share our lives, both good and bad. Those days I walk away feeling encouraged that we are building a good community, a community I want to belong to. Then there are days I walk away feeling disappointed and discouraged. I know that a big part of that is just me. I’m serious when I say this, I’m not an Alpha and I just do not relate to the need to dominate. Also, it’s just me because, and I know it will get me called a pansy, which is ok because it is our joke, I am more of a sensitive soul and discord and conflict bother me. Life is precious and should be enjoyed. I’m old enjoy to realize that not every day is going to be a good day. The good comes, the bad comes. I’m also old enough to realize that when crap starts rolling down the hill it’s time to get off the hill. Now I’m just rambling. And no Surly, I did not take any gummies, this is just me.
Take heart in the fact you’re fighting the good fight. I don’t know how much any of us really understand each other via interactions on a fan blog. What I believe is, none of us are as good or as bad as we may be perceived. Not to say there’s no truth in this environment but it’s artificial in some ways, and it’s ripe for hyperbole.
Bottom line, this is a better place with you around. And crap always rolls down hill, so you can get off the hill or you can just keep climbing.
I’d prefer if the crap was down the hill below me, but that doesn’t always happen. Thanks for the good word.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not excusing some of the behavior around here (my own included sometimes). And I know our life/experiences are different but the “crap down hill” analogy you brought up is life, not just Skoloholics, IMO. So it’s all about how we deal with it.
To be clear, I’m not trying to be bleak and I’m generally an optimist/idealist. I’m just acknowledging we live in an imperfect world. That’s not new…it just reveals itself in different ways as time goes on. Crap rolled down hill in BC days just as well as AD times.
I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with your behavior. It seems if you are stirring something up it is poking the people that need to be poked. Thanks for the good word.

I feel ya. I hear ya. You’re not alone in your thoughts or the desire for harmony. I look at it the same way I would a locker room. Lots of personalities and many of them differ. I played with guys that absolutely hated each other. Off the field. But come game day they’d always rally for their brother on the field. Lots of keyboard warriors. Lots of vitriol. But when the whistle blows Sunday we find common ground in search of a common goal. Same team brother.

Don’t leave, you’d be missed. Let me try to give you some encouragement. One of the things I love the most about being here is the personal stories of what’s going on in folks’ lives. I’ve known some of these guys for 10 years. I like them, and I care about what’s going on in their lives. I get this isn’t the same level of friendship as family or close friends, but I do consider the folks here friends, and we can all use a little more sense of community in this crazy world.
We all have something in common, which is a love of football. I consider that my entertainment and my escape from a constant barrage of bad news these days. Can’t even find movies or television shows any more that are worth spending time on. Being here is an extension of my love of sports. It’s also one of the few places where a conservative can voice an opinion without being censored. I like that for the most part people of all different beliefs and backgrounds feel they can speak their minds here.
I don’t like it when guys play “gotcha” either, but I am 100% against censorship, and I usually just skip those conversations. Soon enough someone starts another discussion that I enjoy.

That’s OK. Sometimes I just get busy, like my sister’s serious accident, or now I’m kind of consumed with looking for a new patio home. However, sometimes I do close out the thread if it goes off the rails a bit. A good night’s sleep seems to cure lots of stuff as does winning games, haha!

I don’t know if you are still hanging around, but I was wondering what a patio home is. Is it kind of like a duplex?
Similar. You only have one shared wall with a unit next to you (no one above you and only 2 units in that building). It’s more private than a condo, you have your own front, side and back yard, usually with a nice sunroom, patio or both. You also have your own 2 car attached garage. The benefit is that the HOA does all the lawn care, snow removal, and outside maintenance (such as roofs, gutters, etc.). It’s mostly for retired folks or sometimes single folks. Patio homes are usually more luxurious (and expensive) than condos.
I went off a couple off a couple days ago and it’s not like me. I’m not combative. I try and choose spots to pop in, but i get it. Do what you got to do.

Yes, I have to find a way to make peace with the other one, but honestly, limiting time around her will have to be part of the solution. She’s good to my grands, and we all enjoy telling the funny family stories, but trying to have much more relationship than that with a know it all that is full of herself is exhausting.
Family stuff can be odd. I have a son in California who won’t talk to me. (politics). Just have to make the best of it. Anyways, hope sis and grands are feeling better.

Yes, oldest grand is fully over her bug, and thank goodness, no one else in the family caught it, not even her little sister, who had a terrific concert Monday night. Sweet sister is getting out more, but still can’t drive. One of the reasons we’re moving in together.

Part of the reason I found it so silly people were willing to throw Covid concerns under the rug was “it’s only bad if you have underlying conditions.” Well good thing half of America is obese and and bunch more have hypertension or some other heart condition.
Pretty early on medical experts identified obesity as the #1 contributor to severe symptoms and death from Covid for non elderly people, shouldn’t be surprising as it’s the #1 contributing factor for all early deaths, eat a salad and go for a walk once in a while and your health magically improves, who would have thought!?

I do think you (as well as most anyone else) wouldn’t find you’re own arguments very compelling had it not been for the fact that I think I can rightfully assume you were raised in a house/community or both of Christian faith. It’s why other religions, even Christian weird off-shoots like Mormon’s magic underwear sounds odd to most Christians but not to Mormons. It’s tough to see outside of what you were conditioned when you were brought. I do respect what you believe in though. You have every right to believe whatever you want.
