Bears @ Vikings
The Vikings are eagerly awaiting their next matchup, which is at home against the Bears this Sunday with a noon kickoff. All signs would indicate that the Vikings will look good on Sunday, and this makes me nervous. It’s part of being a Vikings fan, we’re never really comfortable. You’ll notice it during games especially, you will see very little hugging, high fives, or even smiles in the stands until after the final gun sounds. The only ones who celebrate early are those who are new to fandom. We Vikings fans know all-too-well that you take nothing for granted. After years of watching this team find the most gut-wrenching scenarios in which to lose, you just develop calluses. Similarly, the team has a history of losing to teams that they’re expected to beat, so to be honest, the 7 point favorite bugs me a little. I prefer it when we’re underdogs, but hell, maybe this is the year we shed even more of the non-existent curses that we supposedly carry on this team.
That being said, I look for the team to come out strong at home on Sunday. I think the offense will continue to find its way, and if the O-line can continue to function like an NFL offensive line and we can remain relatively injury-free, I think we’ll see this offense strengthen as the season wears on. If there’s a game where the defense has a chance to get on track, this is it. This is the worst passing offense in the NFL and an offense that gives up a grotesque number of sacks, so our defense SHOULD be able to feast on Sunday. We need them to. I’d like to see our offense control the clock & hold the ball for over 40 minutes.
It remains to be seen. What I DO know is that we will have your game thread for you here, and it will go live around 11:00 am central time. SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The technologist said “I will text him” and she proceeded to whip out her iph, then moved her finger in what seemed a random snakelike fashion over the keyboard for a couple of seconds. I have an app on my laptop that connects to my phone, so I can type texts from a real keyboard. It’s fantastic.

Another one of those recollections of my youth that would be unfamiliar to the youth of today. Circa 1991, had a dot matrix printer, and after working all night to finish my senior college year research project set it to high quality print mode and started printing 156 pages. At that time you were required to either type (like on a typewriter, what’s that?) or print on a HQ dot matrix printer any submitted papers at my college. My first class of the day is at 0800, and it is currently 0530. I eat breakfast and jump in the shower…screeee…screee…screee…goes the printer.
Did not get done printing until 0730, I was literally hole punching pages as they came off, and placing them all into a binder while running out the door for class.
These days the laser printers punch out 156 pages in about sixty seconds.
I remember tearing the holed edges off of printer paper and playing with it. That would’ve been in my public school days.
When I was in college I had to save big papers to a ZIP disk (a glorified floppy disk that could hold a whopping 100 MB) and go to the computer lab on campus to access their printer. There was only one computer in the lab that had a ZIP drive, so I was always trying to plan ahead and be ready to print 24 hours before the assignment was due.
Of course, being a college student, I often procrastinated and ended up needing to print shortly before class. Then I’d have to hope that the one computer I needed wasn’t being randomly used by someone else who didn’t need the ZIP drive and didn’t even notice they were taking the only computer with that feature. A couple of times I had to politely (yet urgently) request that they move to a different computer so I could use the only one that would allow me to print. Then I always had the privilege of explaining what a ZIP disk was.
Stationed in Berlin, we got a lot of high-ranking visitors touring our work site because their wives wanted a reason to come to Berlin for shopping.
We used to play a game called Pin The Tail On The General with those perforated printer paper strips hooked on a paper clip, slipping the paperclip onto a belt or beltloop as they walked by our position. What was even more funny was watching our flight commander try to sneak them off the General’s belt without being noticed.
I got a good laugh just picturing that.

I pretty much guaranteed the Colts would lose. I was wrong. I maintain that they should have – and they would have had the Broncos not set a new bar for terrible play.
Matt Ryan’s performance (yardage/completion%/sacks) was about what I expected, but 0 TDs and 2 INTs was worse than even I thought it would be. I thought maybe 0TD/1INT or 1TD/2INT felt reasonable.
But wow: Wilson’s night. 50% completion rate? multiple sacks? also no TDs and 2 INTs? ugly, ugly, ugly.
