Game Discussion
Wow, what a game! The Minnesota Vikings overcame a 17-point deficit, and beat one of the best teams in the NFL on their home turf. The Vikings are now 9-1, and earned a ton of respect from the NFL. Some had dismissed the Vikings as an imposter since they hadn’t beaten any tough teams. Well, the Vikings put that talk to rest yesterday.
Cousins wasn’t on his A game yesterday, but this is a team game. He also drove the Vikings down the field when they needed it, and he made some clutch throws throughout the game. The Vikings overcame mistakes, and never gave up. After a roller coaster ride in the 4th quarter and overtime, they left Buffalo with a win. The defense wasn’t able to stop anything in the first half, giving up 24 points in the half. The second half was a different story. They held the Bills to only 6 points in the second half, and they got some crucial stops so that their offense could go do their thing. Patrick Peterson made two interceptions in the end zone. One of them being the interception that put the game away.
Watching this game, you saw that Stefon Diggs is a great receiver, among the best in the NFL. You also saw that Justin Jefferson is even better. JJ is already among the best receivers in the NFL, and by the time his career is over, may be one of the best of all-time. That catch he made on 4th and 18 might be on the list of greatest catches of all time. Dalvin Cook is also a beast, he broke an 80 yard touchdown that seemed to ignite the Vikings, and was the beginning of a miraculous comeback. The O-line looked much better than they did last week against a stout Bills pass rush.

Greg Joseph missed ANOTHER crucial PAT. I doubt they’re going to find an upgrade at this point in the season, as anyone who is available at the moment will be flawed, so I doubt we’ll see the Vikings make a change. Get the guy a sports psychologist if you can’t find an upgrade.
Summary
In the end, your Minnesota Vikings are 8-1 (hey five, you might as well get ready to send me those cigars…..AGAIN), and have placed themselves among the best teams in the NFL. What a great game, what a great team, and what a great year. SKOL!!!!!!!!

It’s my honor to continue our tradition of playing the Vikings fight song the day after a wi for the 9th time in 10 games this season.
So a few things to talk about after that game:
First, wow, what a win. Just glad the better team won after a ton of terrible calls and no-calls that very much helped the Bills. Could we get a fairly-called game more than twice per season? Obvious the NFL slated that for a Bills win (much like they helped the Packers win, but that’s a separate point). Missed PI’s all game, helmet to helmet on Hockenson, Kirk getting hi-lowed at least once, not-reviewed missed catch by Bills in 4th Q, 12 men on field not called, fake hold on Darrisaw to cancel out a nice 15-ish yd completion on 3rd and long, etc. If you don’t think the NFL is rigged at this point, you’re dumb IMO. Still entertaining though and I’ll watch during a fun season for games like this where the home team beats a good team AND the NFL’s rigging, but many years it ruins seasons and makes it unwatchable. I think the Vikings are screwed next week because the NFL helped Packers win vs Dallas and the NFL clearly wanted the Vikings to lose this one. Guaranteed loss next week – you heard it here first!
JJ clearly had a monster game. Nice work to him, but don’t forget who is throwing him the ball in the right spot and often getting drilled while doing it. Kirk is very good and had some great passes. Sure he made mistakes, but in the cold/light snow and with a high intensity game, he came through. Stop with the narrative about choking.
Good grief on Cook not catching that easy pass near the goal line. Wouldn’t have needed the miraculous fumble to pull ahead if he catches that ball and turns around to score 1 yard out. Speaking of which, Kirk would get another TD and everybody praises him for the go-ahead instead of saying he choked and they needed a miracle fumble. Just often times stupid failures on others making Kirk look worse IMO.

Just bought me a new snow-pushing shovel. Watch out, winter. I’m not playing around.

Not much. It was ground down to about half its original surface area.
I circumnavigated a quarter section yesterday morning on XC skis. Literally halved my time second time around. Cutting a trail is work!
I have a pair of XX skis somewhere. I should break those puppies out again. Just need new boots. I’ve grown a bit since I last used them.
Observations from yesterday:
Team continues to win games they historically lose. This is good and a testament to coaching imo.
Diggs/Jefferson trade worked out great for us because I like JJ and obviously the age/contract discussion. BUT, this team is not “better” with JJ over Diggs on terms of talent. It’s clear that Diggs was being held back by the coaching staff and offensive game plan and I think we’d be in the same spot with Diggs. Good trade for both, but wish we could have seen him unleashed prior to shipping him off.
Ham being used how he should have been all along. Less use with better opportunity. Throwing to him 6 times a game was DUMB
Josh Allen is really good and I wish him the best.
Kirk looks to be giving his guys more chances and playing less like Kurt, tho Kurt still shows up far too often.
Harrison Smith is good.
and I hate to sound like I’m bragging but it’s getting old being right so often… I once again am correct that Pat Peterson is still good, is just fine (as I stated before the season) and is our best corner (as I stated before the season). Big Stu: 100. Losers: 0
so while i was completely bummed and dejected after kirk got stopped on 4th and goal (thought it was the right play, which he would have gone over the top but maybe he isn’t athletic enough)…..i was thinking i was proud of the team for a great game and not giving up and would have accepted an L and not been mad…

it’s crazy, the vikings yesterday, have been the only team in NFL history to have a couple things go their way for a win.

These prick activist investors buy enough stock in the company where they can start making demands for action that will ultimately line their pockets. The stock price goes up because the pure play company will run more efficiently than a conglomorate. They tell the parent company to sell off the business unit because it can run better on its own, so they sell it, rake in a billion or two, and it ultimately helps the stock price, in theory.
It works at times, but it ignores the collateral damage, and it breaks up a corporate relationship that has been rock solid, and it fucks the employees in the corporate office because they’re out of a job. I love it here, this was an amazing work environment, couldn’t ask for more. You can’t replace a job like this, not if you want to stay in the area. I feel bad for the other employees who have to go find a new place to work. I’m lucky in that I have our business to move on to, and some other things in the works. I’m still pissed, it’s bullshit.

I kinda echo what GF says. I thought the OL played pretty darn elite by recent Vikings standards, even when Darrisaw got pulled…against the best D in the league.
Maybe Joseph did us a favor missing the XP as if the Bills were down 4 at the end they would have driven for a TD with 3 TO’s (I believe) and possibly won the game in regulation.
I don’t get the whole Bills were in hurry up mode on the 20 yard completion so the league didn’t have time to review the completion? Like is the game outcome legit or not with the whole “all challenges originate from booth inside 2 minutes”. If the Vikes hadn’t lost their last TO on the Z Smith injury and called one at that point, I still don’t know if the league would have reversed it. Guy in the booth was probably chatting up a hottie.
Best case scenario for me when the Bills took over on their one foot line was a safety. Imagine if that had happened and Joseph is kicking a 50 yarder to win the game. Ugh.

I know many of you on here are much older than me and have dealt with Vikings trauma much more than me. But just to give you the level of trauma my buddy that I watched the game with and myself have. When Pat Pete caught the pick in OT to end it, we all obviously freaked out and celebrated. The game went to commercial, then the broadcast switched to the Packers Cowboys game and we were like “What the fuck, why is this on, there’s still 1 minute left in over time the Vikings have to kneel to win.” And scrambled on our phones to check the ESPN app and my other buddy yelled at us and said, it was over time you dip shits, the games over. And we’re like “Oh…right…WE WON!”. We thought we could still lose even after we won ๐

One interesting quip I’ve asked an evolution realist is; if people evolved from monkeys then why is there still monkeys and why aren’t they turning into people? Only a certain species evolved? They also say the first land mammal came because a fish wandered up on shore and “eventually over time” grew feet. I never claim to know the exact reality but it is clear than even in the span of recorded human history there have been changes in the living biosphere. Then you take the span of millions of generations, a unit of time we struggle with even with our supposed intellect.
Agree the span of time is unfathomable for our tiny brains. There are certainly changes occurring thru time, the biggest argument for evolution is that it’s quite obvious people have been around for a VERY long time. Though in my humble opinion I think it’s a bit silly to think that over millions of years a certain monkey gradually lost hair and turned into human all while still there are monkeys

What became Homo Sapiens chose the pathway of bigger brains, upright posture (faster, able to manipulate tools, opposable grasp) and what became, say, a chimpanzee went down a separate path. But make no mistake there weren’t chimpanzees 500,000 years ago.
so the theory is that the exact same species of being CHOSE to have a bigger brain and walk upright and the other CHOSE to smack sticks together and hang in trees.

Even if you take the bible literally and start with Adam and Eve, you can see the affects of mutations by just looking at the different human races around the globe, or even dogs for that matter. Once you see that mutations can make changes, you are half way there.
Evolution is simply a by product of mutation, isolation and time.
At some point a population needs to stop interbreeding (isolation). Australia is a prime example of isolation.
Also need time. Mutation rates a variable among different species.
But we share the same DNA with most other mammals.
Humans and Chimps share 98.9% of their DNA.
Humans and mice are at 85%.
These days with CRISPR gene editing technology we could do it in a lab if you wanted to.
That doesn’t mean there is no god.
The universe is vast and to think we are just stratching the surface of it.
I do get a kick out of everyone that suggests evolution is too complicated to just arise on its own.
Therefore, an infinitely more complex being must exist. But then how did this infinitely complex being come to exist?

I would agree that a freak mutation is likely a root cause. At some point a being with superior brain power came to be and procreated, which led us from banging stones together to the roman empire.
But again, isn’t it someone arrogant to call one crazy because they believe a higher power has a sign in it when you’re (not you in this instance but a hypothetical scientist) saying that a fish one day (or over time) decided to grow legs and breathe on land?

There is adaptation and natural selection, but a one-cell organism coming into existence in chemical soup and then continually adding genetic information to improve is a stubborn byproduct of the 1800s. We are in the age of DNA and genetics now.
Also interesting: there was a big nothing, and then that big nothing exploded with a big bang and became matter. Go figure.

German TV cut away from our game right after the game ending INT, girlfriend and I scrambled to get our phones out, frantically checking nfl.com because we as well thought theyยดd play the full 10 minutes. That Hockenson trade is looking better and better, he’s been a key factor in the last 2 wins after being on the team for less than 2 weeks.

I’m surprised how well he’s adjusted so quickly, though I read on the 4th and 6 play he made, he actually didn’t know what he was supposed to be doing.

What he does right off the bat is provide a big open target for Kirk who doesn’t struggle to get separation, not some shrimpy little target who gets lost in the 5’9″ cornerbacks.
This is important to anyone watching the speed of the game.

Re-watching the 2nd half last night, a few things stuck out to me:
–I found myself even more angry at the refs. Ridiculous non-calls and bias and non-review.
–The 4th and 6 pass to Hock is not being talked about like it should be. That was huge in the flow of the game.
–Give credit to Kirk from going from Bad Kirk to Good Kirk and making clutch throws, even as the protection was wearing down toward the end of the game.
