Where the Vikings Need to DO Better
This week is dragging on as we await Sunday’s game against the hated *aints. I hope that Kirk Cousins is able to use this game to break out of the funk he’s been in for much of the young season. He’s made plays and made some tremendous reads and throws, but he’s also had long stretches where he’s been indecisive, hesitant, and inaccurate. If the Vikings want to make a run this year, they’ll need Kirk to be more consistent.
On the Vikings’ defense, the run defense HAS been consistent, but unfortunately, they’ve been consistently bad. It seems like opposing running backs gain five yards before the defense decides to try to tackle them. They need to do better.
The Vikings pass defense hasn’t been lights out, either. Receivers have FAR too much cushion as they’re running their routes, which is a coaching/scheme issue, but personnel could also play a role. Both components of the defense will need to improve as the season progresses as well.
Vikings’ Strengths
Who’s doing things right for the Vikings so far this year? Well, I hope you’re sitting down, but the O-line is suddenly a strength! After 8 years of abysmal performance, it seems we’ve finally found a competent group of big dudes. I think the coaching changeover has been a huge boost to the O-line as well. In the previous eight years, we turned over our offensive coordinator almost annually (more frequently than that in 2018 when DerFlippy didn’t last the entire season. Great hire, Rick!), which is never a good thing.
The Vikings’ Special Teams have performed admirally thus far as well. Greg Joseph is 3 for 5, but both misses were from 56, so I don’t weigh those misses very heavily. The punting has been solid, as has been both the punt and kick coverage units.
The Vikings’ running game has also been sufficient when they’ve been used. I’ll give them a meh, they kinda fall in between “strengths” and “needs improvement”, in my opinion.

We’d load up the Blazer with beer (and whatever else we were doing that day) and go drive around. It was great, we had the whole world to ourselves. What are our thoughts on giving out SS #’s for kids to insurance companies that don’t actually need it or require it for official government use (their ONLY intended purpose)? In the past we have avoided/refused and now wife is trying to sign up for insurance and they aren’t letting her without it (insurance changed). With all the breaches and identity theft what seems like monthly nowadays, is this smart? I hate to cave, but they are being a**holes about it, like the worthless pieces of trash they are (insurance companies – sorry if you work for one, but really, they are evil).

Yeah, breaches like crazy these days. Mine got stolen years back and have put probably over 100 hours into addressing the issues over the years.
Also don’t have option of different company through work – it’s the employers choice given to employees. Buying our own, supplemented, would be expensive and probably not worth the fight/money over that. (Medical insurance btw)

But the thing is the insurance company has no right or need for it. We are not required to have med. insurance anymore by law, so they straight up don’t need it (at least not the full number).

I’m not sure about insurance, but for most financial stuff they need it to confirm citizenship, credit scores and any money transfers…. especially over 10K.
If there’s cash payouts they government may require them to have that info. I really don’t know about insurance, but I bet they act the same way with the assumption of moving money.

Well exactly – for financial stuff it is required/makes sense based on laws/regulations, but medical insurance there is literally no need at this point (it used to be required by law but is not anymore since Trump repealed the law requiring medical insurance for everyone, which was to be verified on taxes every year). It is not supposed to be used for identification purposes, at least the whole number. The medical clinic at which I work doesn’t even collect entire numbers anymore, just last 4 (which I am okay with, since the entire number can’t be stolen/breached then).

-the ball boy said “i got you” if he ever got another foul ball, but he never got another foul ball
-my son really wanted a hat that said “twins” on it…i attached a picture of the one he got…i think it’s hilarious. he has no idea.
-the weather was perfect
-it didn’t go into extra innings
-the kids all LOVED it
-security is REALLY ramped up. Police officers on every single street corner. my son said “oh sweet, dad did you see their guns”?? good boy, guns are sweet.

-had to be in minneapolis
-had to deal with traffic in minneapolis while roads are being worked on

one weird thing i noticed during the game, zero vendors walking up and down the sstairs. this was the first game i have been to this year (last home game of year) i wonder if this was just a last game at target field type thing or if they stopped doing that altogether?
Vendors are still there. I went to a day game in August when they were still in first place. Good crowds still. I am pretty sure post Labor day and post twins collapse they basically weaned off the walking vendors.
I went in May, and there were like 2 vendors covering the whole stadium. One with peanuts and the other with pretzels or something.
No opportunity to make friends with a beer guy.
I had pre-game lunch at Hrbecks. Craft beer and a really good burger.
I just decided to drink a few good beers and then just have water during the game.

My daughter says she’s noticed a big difference in her kids this summer (6 and 8), even on the long drive to Disney World. She’s even taken them on a couple overnighters this summer by herself (summer is hubby’s busy time, works 6 to 7 days a week, slows way down in winter). I could go with her, but I can’t do all the standing and walking anymore.
