Another day removed from the loss to the Lions, and our attention is turning to the upcoming game against Indy. It’s a Saturday kickoff for the next two games, as the Indy game and the Giants game on Christmas Eve will both be Saturday games. The Vikings SHOULD handle business on Saturday and get back on the winning track. There’s no excuse for not putting the North away on Saturday. None. Get it done.

Media Access question. It was not secret that Zim hated Chris Tomasson, along with many of the players (based on facial expressions/body language). KOC is much less “edgy” with the media than Zim was but early indicators are he’s not a big fan of Tomasson either.
Does an NFL team have any control over press passes/media access to their team? I know Tomasson puts out a lot of Vikings beat content but I still have no clue how that guy still has a job. Based on his Twitter feed, he spends 2/3 of the year traveling and posting about his adventures. I truly don’t get it.
Is he the great-great-grandkid of the founder of the Pioneer Press or does he have some sort of dirt on the Editor-in-Chief?

I hate my office. I knew it was close to an Air Force base and had visited the site several times on the weekend before I signed a 5 year lease (a little over 3 years ago). Turns out, during the week, the jets are very busy doing training flights throughout the day and the runway flight path is directly overhead.
You can hardly hear yourself think or talk on the phone during takeoff/landing drills which usually involve a group of about 6-8 fighter jets back-to-back-to-back…

In high school I was lucky enough to get tickets to a FCA banquet that Tom Osborne spoke at and after there was a Q & A. One of the questions asked was: ’How would the option offense do in the NFL and why don’t teams run it?’ His answer: It could be very effective at that level but it’ll never be implemented as the QB is usually the highest paid player on the team and no GM or owner wants to commit that kind of money to a player in a high-risk offense such as the option. I don’t totally agree that it would or could be effective – speed of the game and the athleticism of NFL defenses being the key reason why. But the money part makes sense. Murray may very well not be the same player again.
Running QB offense can absolutely be effective in the NFL. Hurts, Tua, Kyler (pre-last night), Jackson (MVP). But the problem is the injury risk. Jackson is injured once again, Tua was out for a while with the concussions, Kyler last night. Now these guys have to be spectacular athletes to thrive as running QBs in the NFL with all the talent on defense, but it can be done. You are absolutely correct though that the money investment risk is huge. And can be permanent. Kyler might never be the same again, and even if he does get back to that level it will likely take until 2024 at best. GM and HC may very well be gone by then. Huge risk by both HC and GM to run that offense and draft those types of players.
Tua is not a running QB at all, I mean Joe Burrow has more rushing yards than him, but I generally agree with the overall point.

Eagles may be team to beat in the entire NFL. They are playing consistently dominant football but, to your point, rest of NFC is “any given Sunday” level of competition.
I agree about next season to a degree. I think Lions will be the NFC North darling heading into 2023 (rightfully so). On offense, the Vikings should be fine, if not better, with the same core group with one season under their belt with KOC’s scheme, although I think it’s time to move on from Dalvin.
The defense is a huge question mark with holes at every level and a likely need for a scheme/coaching overhaul. But I still think we’re in a better overall position than either Chicago or GB.
Eagles aren’t the team to beat in the NFL, the NFC sucks compared to the AFC.

If I’m Philly, I’d be rethinking how I use Jalen Hurts. For running QBs in the NFL, it’s not a matter of if, but when, they’re going to get injured. Obviously, any QB can get hurt but the injury significance for running QBs and their relatively short career shelf-life makes it a bigger concern when compared to pure pocket QBs and/or scrambling (vs running) QBs, like Mahomes/Allen.
Don’t pay running QBs, just draft them, run them into the ground on the rookie deal and trade them, repeat. Also wouldn’t draft small running QBs like Bryce Young early, he’s a midget and a stick at 6′ 190 lbs, he’ll get crushed by NFL dlinemen.

Turned my thermostat down to 61 yesterday because this old house and furnace are bad for my wallet.
I keep my thermostat at 69 year round, except for the basement which I keep at 60 in the winter and turn off in the summer.
I have all the basement vents I have found closed. Pretty chilly down there, which is nice for the beer fermentation and the bottles of good stuff I am storing down there.

We keep our house warm, about 72 normally. I don’t like being cold.
For winter settings I keep it at 64ish when not home and then put it up to 67 when home and fight my girlfriend on trying not to have it higher than that lol. Big old house with 3 levels. Keep it at 64 at night and just do a space infrared heater in the bedroom at night so the furnace isn’t keeping the whole house warm all night when we are in 1 room.

It is interesting learning their culture. Got to know a few guys from Sisseton when I worked on the highway, stopped by their place on our way home for the year. Have a lot of friends from around the spectrum up here.
My favorite course in high school was Native American studies with Mr. Egstad. Awesome class and teacher. Their culture is fascinating to me.
I liked my Native American studies class too. Then living on the Rez it made me wish those classes had more of a modern day cultural perspective instead of looking at them as this old ancient culture. It’s awesome there are shows out there now that focus on current day Natives. Have you guys seen Reservation Dogs? Holy fuck is that show spot on and funny. Too often the only time Natvies were depicted in movies or media in a positive light was ancient Natives.

I have not talked to my niece about the weather up there recently. Not to brag, but she is currently in finals week and scheduled to work 37 hours.
I’m kind of in awe at her ability to grind. I did not see that coming. She is pretty smart, though. She maybe doesn’t have to study as much.
Good for her! It’s do-able, but not easy. I worked a full-time job & carried a full college load for my entire undergrad. Graduated magma cum laude in 4 years. Also met my wife, married my wife during that 4 years. Our daughter was born 2 weeks after I graduated. I graduated on a Saturday, and I drove my wife out to Minneapolis the next day (we had to be in Minneapolis for the birth).
I did such a bad job at college that I wrote a book for my nieces and nephews as a guide to avoid my mistakes. I mean, it wasn’t like I was an out-of-control party animal, making terrible decisions or getting in trouble. It was just a vague cluelessness about everything involved, and no one really giving me any guidance.
It all worked out fine, though. I still became a productive member of society. God watches out for drunks, little children and idiots.
LOL, if I would have gone to college straight out of high school, it would have been an abysmal failure. I was 33 when I started.
Spent a few years in the army, which helped immensely. Then a decade or so of construction taught me the value of an education, so after I got sober in 2007, first thing I did was sign up for college. Wound up with a 3.898 GPA. 2 one-thousands of a GPA point away from suma cum laude. I was pissed. Got a B in one of my advanced accounting classes & it fucked me.
Ah, yes. That makes sense. If I had gone to college in my 30s, I could have done a lot better. I thought about going back, but now the die is cast, I think. I’d rather devote the time to other things.
I’m very close to my MBA, less than a year left to finish. I was going to finish it this year, but now that they’re selling this company and I’m going self-employed, I won’t need it. I dunno, maybe I will just for the hell of it.

In 2013 we also had a major ice storm and then a foot of snow the next day. That was crazy. I have a birch tree next to my driveway, and the snow and ice basically pulled it into a bow that blocked my driveway.

Last really bad winter I remember here was maybe 2007? I think we had over 100 inches that year, it was crazy. 1997 was another bad one, I think we set the annual snowfall record that year.
In 1997, my brother had two buildings collapse on his farm from the weight of the snow. One of them was a round quonset, the insurance guy didn’t believe him, came out to look for himself, said it was the first time he’d seen a round quonset go down from snow.

2000 was about the worst I have been through here. Lots of white outs. Lots of -20 degree temps.
I remember one day it was a white out with -60 windchill. I was supposed to go out and read meters, but I thought for sure it would be cancelled. Nope. Foreman sent me out with a lineman in a line truck. He told me I had to get out and read each meter, but if we got stuck, he would dig us out. We got stuck.
Interestingly enough, that guy just passed away two days ago. He was a great guy.
Then that weekend, I was so excited about just getting to stay in the house. Saturday morning at 7 am, my brother calls me. The snowplow got a flat tire and he needed help. So the next thing I know, I’m standing outside in -60 windchill again trying to help change a tire on a snow plow.

We’re lucky to have a QB as talented and durable as Kirk Cousins. #1 in the league in QB hits and still he gets up and fights. H8’ers repent or die.
Kirk´s durability gets overlooked a lot, many take it for granted that QB 1 trots out there every week, takes an ugly beating and still delivers most of the time. So locked in in their “beaker” bias that they can´t even give credit when credit is due. They suck. Cut them.
And his talent ceiling is as high as anyone outside of Mahomes. Below shows when he’s on he can carry a team to victory. If not for the worst defense in the league and his coach being too cute and right guard being a hot steaming turd we win Sunday rather easily.
It wasn´t so much the Lions winning that game as the Vikings beating themselves, right. Kirk can carry a team most of the time if his OLine can give him at least a sliver of time. Biggest problem right now is the defense, if the Vikes can´t figure out what to change on defense real quick we´ll be fucked in the playoffs.
We need Evans and Dantzler 100% and Harrison back and that gives us a shot. Our run defense has been adequate but they need to come up with a better pass rush plan. Only blitzing 6 times and letting a QB stand back there and wait for a WR to come open has not worked.
Injuries have hurt the defends, definitely, we depend on those players since our depth at most positions pretty much sucks. Defense needs to generate pressure, and Donatell & his staff have to figure out how his defense can achieve this, quickly.

I wish they’d do more of that, too. Best way to neutralize a blitz is a couple screens at the right times. It’ll back the defense off immediately.
