Most of you didn’t work, and therefore, didn’t tune in yesterday, so we can briefly revisit the game one more time. I’ll just re-post what I said yesterday, since my opinion hasn’t changed since then.
Another great win on Saturday brought the Vikings to 12-3 on this 2022-23 NFL season, and they’re sitting firmly as the #2 seed in the NFC playoff race, a game ahead of the 49ers with two games remaining. We expected a close game, and the Vikings didn’t disappoint. The Vikings kept it close, had a chance to put it away late, and allowed the Giants to tie it just before the clock ran out. However, they left too much time on the clock for Kirk Cousins, and he led the Vikings down the field into range for a LONG Greg Joseph field goal attempt. As we all expected, Joseph nailed the 61-yarder to win the game. Wow, what a finish, and what a great early Christmas present for Vikings fans.
The Vikings will travel to Green Bay on Sunday where they will try to knock the Packers out of the playoff hunt (please do this so that the talking heads have to shut up about the Packers being in it), then they finish the season in Chicago when they take on the Bears to end the regular season.

The Broncos have a stout defense, but the offense, which was supposed to be a strength this year with the additions of Hackett as HC and Russel Wilson at QB, has been abysmal. The 9ers would own the tie-breaker if we lose one of the next 2. The worst division record they could finish with is 5-1, depending on the outcome of their week 18 game at home against the shitty Cardinals. It’s highly likely that their division record is 6-0, so we lose a tie-breaker with them, as our division record is currently 3-1, could be 5-1 at best.
Division record should be meaningless. As long as the 9ers lose one of the next 2, the Vikings only have to win one. So if the Raiders pull off a victory this weekend and the Vikings beat the Packers, the only way the week 18 game means anything is if Philly also loses this weekend. Philly locks the 1 seed with a victory so Vikings, Raiders, Philly wins locks the 1-3 seeds. Tampa and Carolina are still fighting for the division.

Cousins had 19 pass attempts on 2nd down plays last Saturday. 18 were caught for 131 yards. That’s a little over 7 yards per, I wonder what the average distance to go on 2nd down passing plays was?
I was travelling through Elk River last night and stopped to get some beer from Aegir, I may be a sucker but I bought 4 crowlers to get 10% off. Had the black IPA when I got home, very good. Tonight I’ll try the Chipotle beer, hoping its actually spicy and not like the typically pussy MN person who thinks Franks Red Hot is spicy.
You might be disappointed by the spiciness of the chipotle beer – let me know after you try it.
I like their black IPA, but I rarely have it. Only if I’m drinking there and the mood strikes – never brought a crowler home.
What else did you get? The standard IPA and their All Father’s porters are my favorites.
FYI – crowlers are buy one get one half off on Tuesdays.
I mean, I’m not looking for Carolina Reaper level, but I’d like it to have some kick to it, one of my favorite beers was at this place in Greeley where they made a really good chili weat and I’d mix it with an apricot beer resulting in a nice sweet/spicy start/finish that I really liked. The only place I’ve found a spicy beer that’s decent in TC was at Wabasha brewing so I’m excited to try it.
As far as the beers, the one I drank last night I forget the name but its the double black IPA, the other one is their other double IPA, then the spicy beer, and for the wife I grabbed some apple ale.
I know you told me about the Tuesday deal, but IDK when I’ll be able to make it up there on a Tuesday and I really wanted to try some of their stuff, they also gave me 2 stickers. They had a tent outside too but I don’t know what was going on in their, maybe an orgy cause everyone was wearing pajamas.
I thought the chipotle was spicy when I tried it (a few batches ago, I’m sure), and while I like Franks, I thought the beer was just a little too spicy for me, so maybe you’ll like it. I hope you do.

I really like jalapeno infused beer. Cross Country has a nice “chill bill”. I first had one at Butte Brewing Company, your ex was serving and told me she likes it spicy, was with a ketchup guy from Denver once upon a time.
Kiddo LOVED his Christmas presents. Did a scavenger hunt with clues. First, he found a January calendar page that had the dates circled and the words “trip” written on them. Then he found a receipt with the Great Wolf Lodge reservations on them. Then he found a gift for my wife (a day away from us and a trip to the spa while we’re in Murderapolis), then for the finale, the playoff tickets.
Got the biggest hug I’ve ever gotten from him when he saw the tickets. He said “I thought the last home game was yesterday?” I said “well yeah, for the regular season. Look at the dates on the tickets.”
What a great moment for a parent. Sounds like a blast.

Dogs are prescient.
We’ve had the adopted two year old choco 10 days now. Whenever I put him outside, go for walks, etc I put a collar on him with our phone number on it, plus an e-collar. I did forget to have him microchipped when he got nutted so will do that later.
Last night I put the two dogs out at bedtime. I’m about to put the collar on him and decide nah, he sticks to the older dog like glue anyhow he’ll be fine.
Watch out the window, see the older choco coming back, go let him in. “Come here, Bubba!” Nothing. Five minutes later, nothing. Fuck. Put on a pair of boots and a coat over my jammies, walk outside with a flashlight, no sign of the dumbass. Start yelling. Now the missus knows. Fuck. Get my thermal scope out, start panning the pastures in all directions, easy to spot something as it is one massive expanse of snow, can pick out the cows three quarters of a mile away, but no choco. Eek. Wife says, you didn’t put the collar on him, we’ve only had him ten days. Ugh.
I go inside to get the keys for the side by side, who knows where he is or how I’m going to find him. Walk outside and he’s sitting at the door, come on let me in man.
Needless to say I got the talk from my wife.

I worked as an apprentice electrician for a summer, also helped a retired master electrician build his house, so learned quite a bit from him, too.
Not really complex. I installed a new ceiling fan from the beam in my vaulted ceiling about 3 years ago. Remote quit working recently. Changed battery in remote. Didn’t fix it. Ordered new remote. Didn’t fix problem either. They sent me a new receiver that’s wired inside the fan, but haven’t messed with that yet. The remote works both the light and fan blades, so I can’t turn it on or on, but the light switch as to be up for it to function. Anyway, I’m not sure which breaker the fan runs on (since I can’t turn it on to check). I can make a guess with different outlets closest to it. Am I okay to get into the wiring as long as just the switch is off? I always normally turn off the breaker, but I know people who wire fixtures with just the wall switch off.
You would likely be fine as it would be very low amp at the light, but I would still hit the breaker to the switch itself. Probably just all switches to rooms by if it you can’t figure out which breaker controls it. Once switch doesn’t have power the fan should not be hot.
They could be running power through the light, though. Just gotta check how it’s wired.
True, I was assuming or hoping that power dead-end at fan but if it’s coming from another light elsewhere I could have gotten him zapped
I know with ceiling fans it is possible for connection to come loose from vibrations, which might make sense given this scenario. I did tape them with electrical tape when I installed it for that reason though.
There is some goofy backyard mechanic wiring in certain areas of my house I’ve noticed over the years though. Like the guy did the basement himself and I know from living here almost 20 years that some of the breakers don’t really make sense. So I’d still be guessing.
Well, any expert will tell you to turn off the breaker. For myself, I’ll mess with the wiring with the switch off, BUT you have to check how it’s wired. They could be supplying power through the fan itself, and if that’s the case, you’ll have live wires in the fan assembly, so then you don’t want to do it. If you don’t know electrical very well, then err on the side of caution.
Do you have a tester or volt meter? Should be able to tell using that and switching off breakers until you find the right one.
Otherwise, just operate the fan with the switch?

You can’t operate the fan with the switch. Remote only. The remote has 3 speeds for the fan and then the button to turn on/dim the light.
Initially when the remote quit working I could turn the light on and off with the switch (because it quit working while the light was lit), but now that is not working either.
Oh, odd. Ceiling fans suck. I fixed one of mine last year, and it almost cost me my religion. If I had it to do over again, I’d have thrown the fucker & replaced it.

Yeah, and you can pick up a battery operated tester for $10. It’ll beep if there’s power when you hold it up to the wire. I think I have 3 of them, very handy devices.

Just hold it next to the hot wire (black) & it’ll beep if there’s juice.
or just hold it next to the junction box. If there’s power, it’ll beep. I use it on light switches & outlets without even taking the cover off.

I always go extra cautious when messing with electricity. Tape the switch in the off position to make sure nobody walks by & turns it on accidentally, shit like that.

I understand. I have a sink I never use that doesn’t have its own shutoff valves, so I had to shut off the water supply to the whole house to fix it.
I put in shutoff valves while the water was off so I wouldn’t have to do that again, but I had a few words to mumble to the previous owners who obviously did a rush job on the install of that sink.
Shutting off the main water is not as big of a deal. I’ve had to do that several times. I’ve got so many electric devices (computers, modems, routers, cameras, smart tv’s, etc.) I don’t want to potentially have to mess with resetting all that.
How much is it to replace the fan? Might be better off doing that if it’s a PITA to fix.
I already have the new remote and the receiver, so might as well try. The bitch of it is it is high up. Working over my head on a ladder.

I’d at least buy a tester & make sure there is no live power before working on it. Would be much smarter to find the breaker & turn it off. Electricity is nothing to play with.
I have a massive fear of heights. Over the years humping hotel packs up fire ladders, doing construction, etc I have learned to just say no to looking down. FWIW with the shop construction I worked a ton on the 14 foot ceiling, putting up tin, etc. I installed a fan out there just last week. Key is to have a standard A frame ladder that is the right height. You want to have the top of the ladder close to what you are working on so you are not balancing on the second from top or heaven forbid the top of the ladder. That way the fan is kinda sitting in your bread basket.
I will admit when I am too lazy to break out the multimeter and figure it out, I do the tried and true method of flipping the breaker to the nearest outlet that I can tell is on or off, then touching the black and white wires with the back of my hand. I’ve only been bit a couple of times.

We managed to put a hairline crack in our quartz counter top this weekend. We were making lefse and apparently too much heat transferred from the griddle to the counter top causing the crack.
Any pointers on how to fix it? Anyone want to drive to Minot and do it?

They make a sealant for the cracks. Use epoxy, it’s going to be the best quality & will last. Normally, an epoxy is a two-part, so you’ll mix the two parts together, then have 15 minutes or so to apply. A bit more headache, but the best option, IMO.

Yes, it is an electric girddle…we had made lefse on that counter before several times.
I think what happened is it was -20 outside and some of that cold was manifesting through the counter top, Then the griddle was transferring heat and the difference was too much.
The counter top was really hot when it cracked…next time we will put something underneath it.

Man, a few years ago, we had this vendor who didn’t have Excel nor had any desire to get it, had no desire to use a computer. We had this Excel file that we had to have filled out every year, and for them, I had to print it out and send it via mail. Then he/she would fill it out by hand & send it back.

It was a supplier for our manufacturing company, they buy steel products from some blue collar folks who sometimes don’t give 2 shits about technology. Every year, I sit on the phone with several of them to help them fill out this sheet. It’s literally maybe 6 or 7 cells where they have to enter information, but some of them have zero clue how to even open the file.
That sort of stuff frustrates me at my workplace. I am no computer genius, but the plain fact of the matter is my employer gives me a check every two weeks to do various things, some of which must be done on a computer. Ergo, Iearn how to do it, as that is one of the reasons they give me money.
I expect the same basic effort from others. We have one guy who just never bothers to learn stuff and has created literally 100s and 100s of billing errors as a result.

hope everyone had a good Christmas weekend.

it was fun to enjoy the vikings win with my father in law who has been a vikings fan his whole life.
we both were standing up, hands on our knees eyes barely open watching the kick go through, and when it did we jumped up and down hugged and cheered and then had to rush out of the house for christmas eve service.

I casually watched the game, was getting stuff ready for family coming over and then grilling steaks and twice baked potatoes so it was kinda spotty, right before I started the grill Metellus blocked a punt, when I came back to check the TV next time I see Kirk get sacked with the game tied and I’m like yeah baby, bring on OT and a tie, then JJ caught the ball, Kirk spiked it, and Greg the Leg won the game which was pretty cool. Greg can’t miss unless its a FG in the 50-59 yard range or an extra point. After the FG I just went back out to the grill and flipped the steaks.
Somewhere along the line, most emotional reaction has been purged from my system when watching football. Whether the game goes good or bad, my pulse rate stays at 60 bpm. I can still have fun watching, but I don’t have ups or downs anymore. If they win, cool. If they lose, it is fun to mock the mistakes.
It must be that I finally realized that no matter how the game goes, as soon as it is over, I have to get back to “flipping the steaks” of life.
