LOL. Wow, that game. Leave it to the Vikings to make you feel negative after a win. I’m not. 2-1 is better than 1-2, a win is a win, and if this team can get some things in order, they can still make some noise. THAT BEING SAID, let’s talk about our concerns regarding this team.
I’m a fan of looking back on things to see what you did right, wrong, and to find other lessons to learn. In the army, we called it an after-action review. It’s used in business a lot as well, and I’m guessing most of us do something like this. Let’s look back on the game.
What we did right:
The rushing game was working when we used it, Cook was running very well and the O-line was opening up running lanes. The O-line also had a good game against a revamped Lions pass rush that is pretty damn good, they gave Cousins enough time all night and the running backs had huge holes in which to run. The defense, after a horrendous first quarter, got it figured out toward the end and held strong when they needed to, and they got the save as they helped the team to secure the W. Cousins hit a few solid throws, but man, he had that Beavis face and he was playing tight the whole game.
Areas of Concern:
Defense: The defense in the first half was atrocious. Our pass coverage is laughable, it seems like receivers have 5 yard cushions around them where no defender is allowed. The run defense is pourous, and it seems like opposing runners have a 5 yard buffer zone and we aren’t allowed to touch them until they hit that 5 yard mark. Wow. It’s bad. Teams don’t even think about punting against us anymore. Why would you? You’re pretty much guaranteed 5 yards, so if you have fewer than that to go, there is absolutely no reason to punt against this defense when they’re playing like they were in the first half.
Offense: Cousins was off for most of the game. He had that Beavis face that he gets when he’s in spaz mode, and he had that face on all game yesterday. His accuracy was way off, he was indecisive, and his great throws were too infrequent. He finally started finding other receivers after the Lions threw everything they had at stopping JJ. We finally saw Adam Thielen in this game, and then KJ Osbourne made an appearance at the end to come in and save the day.

Finished our fencing project on Saturday. My wife’s ex had the coolest attachments for his skid steer, a big hammer device that you slip an 80 inch long piece of 2 3/4″ pipe into and it goes bang bang bang driving it into the ground (anchor posts) and then another attachment kinda like a jackhammer you put the smaller metal posts you clip the barbed wire to into and ratchets them down. Big time saver. For the use of his skidsteer, attachments, and operator time (including the 13 year old grandson running the jackhammer thing) and pulling up some old wooden power poles he charged us $133 which goes into the grandson’s lathe fund. Good deal.
My poor baby soft hands are all cut up from the wire. I learned about deadman posts to hold wire down in swales when I had a wire pull a pole straight out of the ground like a bowstring and burrow into the hypothenar eminence of my gloved hand. Still hurts like a mofo.

I had some doofus riding my bumper as I was sailing into town last week. Right next to the lake (surprise!) Came back from Canoe Girl’s last night around 8, and there’s a guy riding my bumper on 101, maybe a legit 15 feet behind, at 65mph, in the right lane.
Tired of it, so pull into left lane to see if he passes me up, which was nice of me because I was about ready to stand on the brakes instead, and send his little car into car heaven, and of course I see him furiously texting as as he passes me up.

Jameis Winston produced his 28th career multi-interception game in Sunday’s 22-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers (LOL), but the interceptions had far less bearing on the result than an early Alvin Kamara fumble, a blocked field goal, and a series of penalty-exacerbated first-half three-and-outs. When Winston’s turnovers aren’t your team’s primary problem, you have some real problems.
