Hey, a solid win by the Vikings yesterday. Was it perfect? Far from it. However, the Vikings took the lead on the first series, and they held it for a vast majority of the game.
Defense/Special Teams
The defense looked stout in the first half, with the exception of the Cardinals’ final drive, but then faltered in the third quarter before settling in again at the end and doing enough to get the save. The defense came up with some crucial turnovers to help keep the Vikings in control of this game. The special teams unit also came up with a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter. I really have no words about Greg Joseph. It isn’t the filed goals so much, as the dude has been money from inside the 50. All of his misses this year have been from beyond 50, but even then, you should make more than one out of it happens to be an extra point, then he turns into 2016 Blair Walsh.
Offense
On offense, the running game ruled the day, as Dalvin Cook ran wild the entire game, and Mattison was a solid platoon back. Heck, Cousins even got in on the running action, as he contributed a 20 yard TD run of his own on the opening drive. The passing offense, most notably Kirk Cousins, struggled at times. Cousins missed some wide open receivers on several plays (you never know, these may have been on the receiver as well, as we don’t know the plays and reads of each individual play), but in the end, they got enough going to help the team get the win.
Summary
In previous games, I’ve said that an ugly win is better than a pretty loss, and that’s true. I wouldn’t classify yesterday’s win as “ugly”, but it wasn’t beautiful, either. Who cares? In the end, the Minnesota Vikings are 6-1 and sit alone up at the top of the NFC North. Enjoy this win, enjoy the team being 6-1, and let’s hope they can keep winning games, because this is fun. Loser Irv injury costed us a trade for a WR now. Likely need to go TE
Probably trade a 4th for him and then he’ll catch like 4 passes for the whole season.

He does that to most O linemen, but yeah, Ingram had a rough outing.
Ingram’s been terrible in pass pro a fair amount of the time.
Good run blocking, but pretty bad pass blocking this year so far, & yesterday was worse all around for him. Not shocking as he was going up against Watt.
According to PFF:
His grade for the year is 56.7 overall, 32.6 pass blocking (horrible, lower grade than Mundt) & 71.5 run blocking (very good).
On Sunday, his overall grade was 41.7, 16.9 pass blocking (ouch) & 59.7 run blocking.
So, I waited until noon of Halloween day to buy candy to give away in my office. I still might eat all this shit before any kiddos stop by.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

Dermatologist can’t fix a stye. It’s hardcore warm compresses and pressure afterwards to drain, and if that doesn’t work after about 7-10 days, see an ophthalmologist to drain.

Yeah, heat pack on the eye 4X/day for 10-15 mins for like a week (or less if it clears sooner). If not improved or gone after that, go see an ophthalmologist if you want it addressed.

As I stated, if it’s a true stye (hordeolum), that is not going to work/happen. You cannot “laser off” an infected oil gland in the eyelid. It is like a pimple.
Is Hordeolum that flooring that looks like tile, but does a better job of maintaining warmth? Was looking at that for our basement bathroom a few years back.

I haven’t worn contacts since like August, just can’t seem to get rid of it.
They’re a build-up of oils, so the hot compress is supposed to soften them up. I had to apply gentle pressure to mine to help remove the blockage first. Took a couple weeks.
First one I had wouldn’t go away – had to have it cut open and scraped out.
And yeah, I was bad about taking out my contacts until the second one developed.
How about a lump in the eyebrow that has slowly grown over a couple of years to be about .5-1 cm, any suggestions on that one?

Another kicker option: Rodrigo Blankenship. This is who Arizona used when Prater was out (one week). In his career, he’s ~83% on field goals (hit all under 30, 15/17 from 30-39, 15/19 from 40-49, 2/5 from 50+), and 54/58 on PATs (~93%)
He is a lot like Fuad Reviez, he will make all the kicks he should but from 45+ its a crapshoot.

Well from a physical perspective Barr is like 6 inches taller than Kendricks and has a wingspan that’s probably another 6-8″ longer as well so it will be much, much easier for Allen to hurdle Kendricks. Also I remember when Jimmy Garrapolo pancaked Barr, lol.

The phantom holding call that gave them a free timeout when there was just over 2 minutes left was one. In 3 plays, we ran only seconds off the clock because of that.

Saints game: His miss kept the game at 3 score. With 24 seconds left the Saints got the ball and got within 60 yards for a tie. I think that was a double donk. We win 25 to 28, but it should not have come down to a 60 yarder.
He also missed a pair of kicks against the Lions. We won 28 to 24, but at 34 to 24 (makes both) or 31 to 24 (makes 1), it takes a lot of pressure of the defense.
Hell, you add 1 point onto yesterday’s score, and there isn’t much to worry about on that last drive.

Defense is coming together, but the offense is not, in fact, they may be regressing a bit. I keep waiting for us to play “the complete game”, but will I be waiting all season? The distance from floor to ceiling of this team may be the biggest in the NFL. I am worried about crashing onto the floor

I said was, going into the game. Of course when you get 3 turnovers and 13 points given to you, that helps scoring but not offensive stats.

Long story. So, we got there on Friday afternoon, got set up & ran to town to grab dinner. Ate then grabbed an ice cream & headed back to camp. Kiddo got sick & started throwing up at midnight, didn’t finish until about 7am. So, we didn’t even put the boat in the water. Stayed in Minot Saturday night instead, hung out & rested, ate some movie theater popcorn, got home an hour before kickoff yesterday. He’s feeling better now. He swears it was the ice cream that made him sick.
Oh man, sorry for Kiddo. I hope you get another chance to get out on the lake this year,
Doubt it’ll happen again this year, probably will winterize the boat this week, unfortunately. Oh well, there’s always next year, and ice fishing is just around the corner. Can’t wait!
Yeah, we completed the winterizations at Canoe Girl’s marina on Saturday morning. Even put the canoe up.
Her lagoon is the lowest it’s ever been, so might have to put the pontoon on wheels if we don’t get a lot of snow this winter or rain in the spring.
Oh, I’ll keep the kayaks ready, I’ll still get out a time or two, especially when the fall rush hits.
On Craigslist, I saw a 12-foot fishing kayak listed in the FREE section a few days ago.

When you look at the stat sheet the next day, it seems like he might have done okay, but when you watch the game, it seems like there are long periods of blech from him.
It seems like he disappears for stretches. Gets into those phases where he is indecisive & creates sacks where they didn’t need to occur, seems like it’ll be several series in a row, then he’ll snap out of it again. Drives me batty.
He does have those stretches, like the fumble yesterday was just a dumb play where he stood in the pocket forever like a drooling inbreeder from West Virginia looking at his sister bending over, but this season he has been the opposite of Beaker in the 4th quarters and has led multiple game winning drives.
Yeah, exactly. He creates sacks like that far too often. When there’s time to throw it away or hit the hot route & there’s obvious pressure coming, get rid of the ball. He gets into those phases where he has absolutely zero decisiveness.
Kirk lit it up last year every game almost and we lost. He’s not playing that great this year but we’re winning,

Kirk is 19th in QBs sacked the most. So that makes him about 13th in QBs sacked the least (roughly), so he is about average, to a bit better than average in this regard.
I couldn’t see the downfield WRs on that play, but it was a 3 step drop and that ball needs to be out of your hands fast.

It ain’t easy to win in this league. 6-1 is no joke. This team is the anti-last-year’s team. I’m still losing years off my life each week, but it’s much better when they come out on top.
The team is actually building up trust to pull out a win when it’s close instead of waiting to see how it will all come crashing down.
Add in another Packers loss and it’s a sweet sweet season.

If I heard it once I heard it a dozen times on the NFL wrap up segments, “The surprising Minnesota Vikings”. Sounds eerily like when all the MSM anchors use the same odd phrase to describe something in the news cycle, “The Republican Party acted in a fractious and lugubrious manner today…”
It’s a yuge shock because we have been playing so poorly but still winning. Zim gets some of the credit for being so bad last season to give us such an easy schedule this year.
Yet on this very site preseason I heard we had a murderers row of early games and would likely be 1-5 at the bye. Never heard anyone say we had the easiest schedule in the NFL. It’s almost like you have to play the games.
Yep, I have admitted I didn’t see us having zero injuries, least penalties, playing vs back up qbs, and being given the ball and points so often.
